Is there any chance of increasing the 20 character limit for keywords? I find that especially when it comes to various political organizations, though occasionally names also, that 20 characters is not enough...

Might want to bring the tech guy in for this question. I would think that growing the keywords beyond 20 characters would mean a significant increase in the size of the database. We're at, what, 1,243,128 posts?
Not sure how the software is set up to handle these things, but if every post's keywords increased in size by the amount, that's a significant piece of digital real estate.

Keywords should be set up independently from the thread table - it doesn't need to exist for every thread.
But it is correct, depending on the database and how keywords are set up, allowing for longer keywords would have a slight hit on DB efficiency/performance. Likely nothing that would break it, but it wouldn't help any.

I've hit the limit sometimes because of political organization titles but can usually weed it down. If it would cause any "serious" impact to the performance of FR, I say we should just be a bit more innovative in putting together keywords.
What if it was bumped to 32 characters?

I agree, just a little bit would help alot. 32 is the next 2^x after 20, so I would think a logical progression.
Of course, this is something that would be nice, not needed, so if it is difficult to enact or would take up too many resources, I obviously understand.
Still, one of the nicest things about FR is the ability to do powerful research with it via keywords, and this would make that tool slightly better...
