The third annual Live Oak County Area Go Texan Barbecue Cook-off/Benefit Auction will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Swinney Switch Grill in Swinney Switch. The IBCA-sanctioned event is open to the public and proceeds will benefit the Live Oak County Area Go Texan Scholarship Fund.
Cooking categories include one-half jointed chicken, pork spare ribs (not baby back ribs) and beef brisket. A total of $2,100 in prize money will be awarded to the top three places in each meat category. First place will earn $400; second, $200; and third, $100.
Jackpot entry divisions include beans and pan de campo. Fifty percent of jackpot entries will be awarded to first-place jackpot winners.
A trophy will be awarded to the team which receives the most donations for food served to spectators at the pit. All proceeds will go to the Go Texan Scholarship Fund.

Registration will be held from 5 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, or 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30. The calcutta is set for 1:35 p.m. Saturday and a benefit auction is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Live music and dancing will be provided by Right Cumberson on Saturday from 8:30 p.m. Tickets will be $10 per person.
