Why the Kerry tongue flick last night?

We were watching a recording of Kerry's appearance on Letterman and actually found ourselves distracted by the constant flicking and probing of the senator's red yahzik.
We eventually decided to take a few screenshots and post them up. Trying to take screenshots at first was like a game of whack-a-mole. But after a while there was a certain zen to it all -- we could feel when it was going to appear.
We were busy. Ninety-four times it popped out! And that's not counting the rebound-wags, tooth-probes, lip-diggers, half-rollers, split-flips, or even any biting-curls! An animated gif would have been too big, so we put together this instead... (Don't get confused! That actually is his tongue, not his bottom lip.)

Are the flies drawn to all the BS coming out of his mouth? Is he so lost that he uses the tongue flick as a directional mechanism as a snake would?

The tongue flicking is his NORMAL habit when speaking. About every 4-5 words is his average.

Each of the men blinked fewer times per minute than they had last week, he said. A rate of 30 to 50 blinks per minute indicates a normal stress level. Tecce found that Kerry blinked about 40 times per minute during the debate, and Bush..... maintained a rate of about 20 blinks per minute, even in his closing address
Kerry blinks, he flicks, he sweats, hes gross
Bush makes strides, but overall, score it a draw

I have noticed this revolting nervous habit.
It makes him seem even more reptilian and shifty.
I attribute it to some sort of medication he is taking, perhaps an anti-depressant.

He did it during the debate, too. I tried to look closely to see if it was forked. Thought I saw him catch a fly at one point.
