The Hobbit Hole XVI - Still round the corner there may wait...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner there may wait...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Well, just when I thought it couldn't get any better...I got a knock on my door.

Another crew chief was standing at my door, big poster in his hands, wanting to meet us and the boys! He had a copy of my letter in his hands...said everyone had a copy!

The kicker? He invited us to tour the Army National Guard next Friday. Invited Matthew's cub scout troop too. (We're not really active, but I didn't think that would bother the cub scout leader too much and I was right.) We'll be going on the tour which will include getting up close and personal with a Black Hawk and then shortly afterward, we'll get to watch them take off on a mission of some sort!

This happened at about 5pm and I'm still shaking. We just got in from making phone calls for the Coburn campaign and just got a chance to write. Steve is watching the debate. I can't watch it.

Double zowie, you're on a roll, 2J. I'll try to get a decent supply of Hobbit Hole knives to you by Friday. Of course, no mail will be moving on Sunday or Monday, but you still should get it by Friday.

We can't give them away to everyone on the base, but distribute as you see fit. Keep an eye out for chaplains, too. :)

And I need to contact the dealer, my stash is suddenly shrinking again.

That's fantastic! Sounds like your letter was a big hit!

GW is doing ok, I think!

I'm just so pleased that they were so encouraged. I just can't believe my letter made such an impression! I said "Oh, you have a copy of my letter!" and he said "Oh sure! Everyone has a copy!"

If it made one soldier smile, it was a "mission accomplished" and apparently it made a whole bunch of them smile.

I can't tell you how pleased I am to have made them happy!

Well, between you and me and the fence post, I'm especially pleased that the cub scouts got invited. This will keep Matthew "in their minds" even though he's "inactive" this year. Matthew was going around saying "Boy, the guys are gonna be IMPRESSED!"

I try to teach my boys that we don't do kind acts for a reward...but secretly, I'm really tickled for Matthew.

I think that goes to show that sometimes when you do things without thought of reward, you get a nice bonus! :) I bet that will leave a big impression on those Cub Scouts to see something like that--I know if I was that age I'd be excited--actually I'd be excited at my age, LOL!

Many reasons, but mainly time...I just don't have the time. Steve will be able to take it back up next year after he finishes school, but with him gone all the time and me being practically by myself all the time, I just could see it being too much.

LOL I know! I invited Celeste too, and her husband is taking off early from work so he can go too! We're all very excited!

That's sensible, I think! Too many kids these days are overscheduled, IMHO... don't have time to just be kids.

That's right! Playing in the yard is fun, you know! And this morning, after the boys worked all week to have their school completed early so as to have this day off for a field trip that was ultimately cancelled because of weather, I let them sleep in! Didn't even tell 'em to get up at all.

'Course, Joshua got up at the crack of dawn as usual.
