Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Still round the corner there may wait...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Just fired off a letter to the editor:
Dear Editor,
Joe Taylor (Would Bush, Cheney Star in 'Rings'?) suggests that Kathleen Parker's column comparing "The Lord of the Rings" to the war on terror would more accurately portray the President and Vice President as Saruman and Wormtongue. Well, that's cute. But more than a little clueless. What it shows is that Mr. Taylor understands neither the movies nor the war on terror.
At a key point in the Rings trilogy, Aragorn confronts King Theoden with the words "Open war is upon you, whether you risk it or not." Indeed, George Bush did not call for the war on terror, but he responded when we were attacked.
And, attacked we were, by extremists who do not wish merely to conquer us, they wish to annihilate us. George Bush understands that. John Kerry, on the other hand, changes his position on the war so often that he may have understood it yesterday, but there's no guarantee of tomorrow.
I want a President who understands the threat, who knows the real enemy. That President is George W. Bush. He is the President who would say as Aragorn said approaching the final battle, "A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day...By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!"
George Bush and Dick Cheney are the leaders America needs today, and those who understand the challenge will stand with them. Count me among them.

Sticklebats.
ecurbh called... He thought he did well on the written test, but they only picked the top 4 out of 60 people for the screen test, and he wasn't one of 'em.
We'll hear more when he gets home about the process, but I know he's disappointed to miss out on getting to the next level. It was such a crazy, fun and unhobbit-like thing for him to try!

I just haven't been able to be married very long yet, though.... I'd hate to lose him now. I've got his horse to take care of and all.

And hey...not everyone can say they got to try out for Jeopardy. That's pretty cool in and of itself.
