Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Still round the corner there may wait...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Sorry, it's rainy here today and that makes me grumpy. Rain when it's chilly is not fun.

One of the sub themes that occasionally shows up in anime is the attitude that only the 'strong' have the power to stand up and fight evil or change their destiny. It is an old attitude that no doubt is a hold over from samurai days which for the Japanese was only as long ago as our 'old west'. Some shows like Samurai 7 show 'normal' people starting to take a stand but there are other shows that I just have to stop watching (it bugs me too much) when the attitude that only the strong can defend themselves rears it's ugly head. It is an understandable attitude for a people that had not real concept of firearms. It is really the handheld firearm that lets any person with only the must basic training can have a reasonable change to defend themselves for any other individual no mater how big how strong or how skilled. Even in anime shows with guns you sometimes get the attitude that normal people are somehow powerless against the really powerful people.
Sorry to go off on a rant but it is a subtheme that can turn me off to an otherwise great show and it has become a pet peeve of mine.

Ah yes...Han Solo, the first guy I ever had a crush on...when I was maybe five.
I've always had a thing for self-assured, slightly sarcastic types. ;-)

elf-boy asks me everytime we pass the fire station if we can stop and meet the firemen. So, he has two days coming up where he doesn't have school. I called the fire station administration and tentatively have set up a tour for him on the 19th of this month.

Ugh. Just spent forty minutes restore a file for a moron (undergrads can be called morons) who gave us the wrong dates yesterday and complained when he didn't get the file he wanted.
