My child shares a liberal's name.

Posted on 10/05/2004 1:24:34 PM PDT by fishtank

My child shares the EXACT (first and last) name of a famous (or infamous) liberal.

At least once every two weeks, someone will wisecrack to me: "Ohh, your child is so famous now.", or some other comment.

The latest one was actually to me: "So, how is your relative?"

The last two or three times this has happened about my kid, I said, "Well, if I'd known this 8 years ago, I would have named him "George W." or "Reagan"."

The joking stopped REAL fast after I've said that.

Should have rethought "Obama."

I have a neighbor who changed his name a few years ago. It was Daschle, now it's Dashel.

It better not be Drew Peacock.

I've know people named David Berkowitz (who goes by his middle name) and Jeffrey Dahmer. I assume that your son's name is either John Kerry or John Edwards, so I would say he is in worse shape than my two aforementioned acquaintences.

Look on the bright side, at least he can strive to reclaim the name for something good in his life.

I have a close friend who looks EXACTLY like John Edwards (hair and all). The ironic thing is that he is a hardcore Republican and lurker here on FR.

Does your kid have a great middle name?

Well, chances are good that after the election the name-linkage won't be a problem ;-)

I think a nice little nickname is in order. My daughter's name is Monica and that was really bad for a while.

Yes.

It's pretty neutral, politically speaking.

I've got a buddy whose name is Dash. He plays guitar in a rock/blues band, drinks beer and gets lotsa nookie. Nobody confuses him with the senator who is a nookie.

My guess is that he has the misfortune to be named "Michael Moore". It'll go away.

Dropped by the Republican headquarters a few hours ago. Talked to a lady who's daughter goes to school with a girl named "Kerry Edwards". Say's she went by the Demo headquarters and scooped up all their paraphenalia to keep it for posterity.

If you're gonna name your progeny after Hillary! Clinton you should expect some ribbing.
