U.N. Calls Emergency Meeting on Israel

UNITED NATIONS - The U.N. Security Council called an emergency meeting Monday at the request of Arab nations to consider a resolution demanding an immediate halt to a major Israeli offensive in the northern Gaza Strip (news - web sites).

Algeria's U.N. Ambassador Abdallah Baali, the only Arab member of the council, requested the open meeting following the nearly weeklong operation that has killed at least 65 Palestinians.

"Taking into account the gravity, the urgency of the situation, the seriousness of the situation, we need to have the Security Council take a decision quickly — and quickly means tomorrow (Tuesday) at the latest," Baali said.

The draft resolution, which was endorsed Monday morning by Arab nations, expresses "grave concern at the continued deterioration of the situation on the ground" in Palestinian territories and calls on Israel and the Palestinians to immediately implement the internationally-backed road map peace plan.

The Arab draft condemns "the broad military incursion and attacks by the Israeli occupying forces in the area of Northern Gaza Strip, including in and around the Jabiliya refugee camp, resulting in extensive human casualties and destruction and exacerbating the dire humanitarian situation."

It "demands the immediate cessation of all military operations in the area of northern Gaza and the withdrawal of the Israeli occupying forces from that area." It also reiterates the council's call a halt to all violence and adherence to international humanitarian law.

I wish I could obtain a copy of that draft.

That I might wipe my rump with it.

U.N. Calls Emergency Meeting on Israel

What - not enough Jews killed this week? I guess the United Nations knows when to act, doesn't it?

The Palestinian savages lobbed rockets into Israel, killing some toddlers.

The Israelis are taking over the rocket launching areas.

Any nation attacked in similar fashion would do the same.

The meeting of "global consensus" being urged also plans to demand that all Jews must first set fire to their homes and then kill themselves.

Does it also include a demand that the rocket attacks launched from Gaza should be halted?

Most of the killed Arabs have been terrorists, not just "innocent Palestinians."

Hitler would be proud of the UN. They're almost as anti-semetic as he was.

I'm wondering if it isn't past time for a joint U.S./Isreal operation against the United Nations. The president said "You're either with us, or the terrorists", and it is pretty damn clear who the U.N. is with...

The U.N. Security Council called an emergency meeting Monday at the request of Arab nations to consider a resolution demanding an immediate halt to a major Israeli offensive in the northern Gaza Strip...

Gee, if only the U.N. were so at such rapt attention whenever the Palestinians blow up another bus or coffee bar in Israel.

The draft resolution, which was endorsed Monday morning by Arab nations, expresses "grave concern at the continued deterioration of the situation on the ground" in Palestinian territories...

I don't think there's ever been any "grave concerns" expressed by the Arabs when the Palestinians were killing women and children at random with their suicide bombers. With that in mind, I'll have to consider the Arab "concerns" as just so much grandstanding and propaganda (as usual).

Let us not forget, when Jordan controlled the West Bank and Egypt controlled the Gaza strip, neither Arab nation was willing to give up that land for the Palestinians. But when Israel took that land from them following their failed invasion of Israeli territory, suddenly it's in vogue to fork over the land to Arafat and his fellow terrorists.

In a pig's eye.
