This is a major major accomplishment. He is to be commended. As you say to break a record that old that no one has appraoched in in decades is amazing.

Boggs got 240 in 1985, and Carew and Don Mattingly got 238. Ichiro could/should get 266-265. Wow.
One quibble: Since the AL has the DH, how many extra times per year does a typical leadoff person bat? I'm not going to be a sourpuss and say he doesn't deserve his props, but it is worth knowing, IMHO.
