In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
fustigate \FUSS-tuh-gayt\ verb
1. to beat with or as if with a short heavy club
2. to criticize severely *
*Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.
Example sentence:
The incumbent senator has been fustigated by his opponent for twice voting to raise taxes.
Did you know?
Though it won't leave a bump on your head, severe criticism can be a blow to your self-esteem. It's no wonder that "fustigate," when it first appeared in the 17th century, originally meant "to cudgel or beat with a short heavy stick," a sense that reflects the word's derivation from the Latin noun "fustis," which means "club" or "staff." The "criticize" sense is more common these days, but the violent use of "fustigate" was a hit with earlier writers like George Huddesford, who in 1801 told of an angry Jove who "cudgell'd all the constellations, ... / Swore he'd eject the man i' the moon ... / And fustigate him round his orbit."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
when i was seated i was stitching and not looking up at the tv!
It just really irritated me when Kerry was so smarmily condescending and arrogant toward him, talking about correcting him and whatnot. My wife said that when kerry said that it would have turned her against him even if she supported him.
It's no where near as bad as it was yesterday, but it is a bit on the irregular side today.

NO. And the comercials are keeping the issues front and center. ie swiftee ads and windsurfing ads........neither good for kerry. Voters need a reason to fire Bush, do they have it yet? I don't think kerry was that good.
i guess i am upset over nothing and you guys are probably more right, but i was not happy about the whole thing. on F&F this AM they commented on how they each complimented each other on their daughters and Kerry complimented W on Laura and W didn't say squat about Tereza!
My TV is in a different room than I am, and at a distance of at least 30 feet --- without glasses on I don't get a very clear picture, but I can't ear my glasses at the computer.
So I primarily just listened.........every once in a while I would get up and go into the other room to get a closer look.
He was just heeding Thumper's dad's advice: "If ya can't say somethin' nice, don't say nothin' at all!"
How did W compliment kerry's daughters? "Vanessa has a nice pair of hooters?" (they really weren't particularly impressive)
What is there to say that is suitable for primetime TV???
GMTA!
there is nothing nice to say about tehhreeesa
That boy had more pancake on his face than a French ho' and Aunt Jemima put together.
he thanked them for being gracious to HIS daughters while out on the campaign trail. i didn't realize they had run into each other, but he did thank Kerry for his girls being nice to the twins.
xsbrownie, when she heard that he had had a manicure yesterday, asked if he got orange nailpolish to match his face....
You're kids have wicked wits!!!!!!!!!!!!
"W didn't say squat about Tereza!"
Yes he did
Bush: " And I must compliment your wife Teresa on her ability to preserve her enormous wealth, especially in
light of the fact that she inherited it. It must be very difficult to keep the media from finding out that most of her income comes from foreign workers, and foreign subsidiaries owned by Heinz. And you Mr.Kerry, pretending to be a friend of the working man and all, complaining about outsourcing....yep, it must be difficult indeed!!"
speaking of sleepovers, i am hosting 4 of xsteens friends for one tonight. i figure that since most of the moms work, instead of ordering pizza, and since i am home today, i would make a nice homecooked meal. so i am doing lasagna, homemade bread, salad, dilled green beans and brownies with icecream for dessert.
interestingly enough, i had not met one of the moms of one of her friends and xsteen calls me frantically to say Lavinia's mom won't let her sleepover bc we hadn't met and could i please call her and so i did, and she will let her come. i thought that was kind of refreshing actually.
Yup!!!!!!!!!
