"To all Kerry supporters, STAY HOME on November 2." [My Levin-inspired letter to my neighbors]
letter to my neighbors | September 29, 2004 | Paul Klenk

Posted on 09/29/2004 4:46:36 PM PDT by paulklenk

September 29, 2004

To my neighbors on 118th Street:

I hope this letter finds you well.

Please vote for George W. Bush on November 2. He is a good president, a good man, and our country needs him right now.

I realize this letter may reach some Democrats, some Republicans, and some independent voters, and that many of you may already have your mind made up about this election. But take a moment to consider the following:

· We only have two choices in this election, Bush and Kerry.
· Neither of these men is perfect – both have faults and both make mistakes.
· Bush has always been very tough on terrorism and is committed to always doing what is in the interest of America – which is his job as President. Kerry – however well-meaning he may be – will allow other countries decide whether America can defend itself.
· If America loses the war on terror, the entire world loses the war on terror. America has decided to lead this war, and with everyone’s help and many years of work, we can win it.

IF YOU SUPPORT BUSH
If you support Bush, volunteer for his campaign and do everything you can to help him between now and November 2. You can do a lot just by openly supporting him and asking your friends to vote for him. When you openly support Bush, you will encourage others to speak out as well. And vote on November 2! Ronald Reagan won the state of New York in 1980 and 1984. Bush can win New York in 2004! ‘W’ stands for Winner!

IF YOU SUPPORT JOHN KERRY
Please reconsider your support. You do not owe this man your vote merely because you belong to his party, or come from a family of Democrats, or belong to a certain ethnic group. You do owe your country a thoughtful vote that is in the interest of all Americans, not just one interest group. You owe your country a vote that is not based on hatred or resentment, but on what is right for the country in the long run. Kerry is not right for this country; Bush is clearly the best choice of the two candidates.

IF YOU REFUSE TO VOTE FOR BUSH
If you refuse to support Bush, please do the public a service and stay home on November 2. Do not vote. It is the best thing you can do for your country. Let me suggest to you that you will be too busy to vote that day, or too tired. Let me suggest that it will slip your mind. You may mean to vote, but you will find other things to do. Or you willl simply forget. Whatever the reason, it is important for the future of our nation that you not vote.

Sincerely,

– your neighbor

This is the letter I will be distributing to all my neighbors' apartments this evening. It is inspired by Mark Levin's "Suppress the Vote" campaign wherein he asks all Kerry supporters to stay home on November 2.

Yes! I spoke with him recently and shared with him my 'augmented' version of his Suppress the Vote campaign.

In this version, I not only tell Democrats to stay home on November 2, but I suggest to them that they will find other things to do, and that it will slip their mind to vote at all.

I've had pretty good success convincing several ABB voters that Kerry is just as bad, voted for the war, said he would do it again etc and that Nader is their man. Another angle is to encourage them to write in Dean, the candidate they really wanted. They get pretty fired up when you tell them that the 'so-called moderates hijacked their party' and gave them this dud. The ABB crowd despises Kerry, they just despise him slightly less than the President.

What is an ABB voter? I haven't heard that term before.

You don't indicate where you live and I assume there are a lot of 118th Streets in larger cities across this country, might I just counsel, if you live in NY or on the West Coast, you wait about three more weeks before you pass out that letter. A letter which could make future interactions with your neighbors somewhat tense.
I'm not saying back down from your position, a position with which I agree, but I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I can tell you from a lot of personal experience that liberals don't embrace your diversity unless they agree with it. For them it's Free Speach if they agree and Hate Speach if they don't.

Hey, you bring up a good point, and it has inspired me to edit my letter, incorporating the theme of Choice in the last section:

"If you refuse to support Bush, please do the public a service and choose to stay home on November 2. Do not vote. It is the best choice you can make for your country. Let me suggest to you that you will be too busy to vote that day, or too tired. Let me suggest that it will slip your mind. You may mean to vote, but you will find other things to do. Or, at the last minute, you will simply choose not to. Whatever the reason, it is important for the future of our nation that you choose not to vote. THIS IS YOUR MOST NOBLE CHOICE."

Thanks for your help!

I live in Queens, NYC. The letter will be anonymous and I will simply leave it at people's doors.

If anyone objects, believe me, I can take care of myself.

Thanks for posting and for your concern.

Sincerely,

I always liked: "On November 9, Vote Kerry."

WOW! What a great feeling I got last night, dropping off letters at every apartment in my building!

I know this may seem silly, but the simple act of writing a letter and dropping copies off at my neighbor's apartments was very exhilarating. I'm hungry for more!

I also designed a new flyer, very simple, which I will pass out on the subways. The message is simple: "You have two clear choices on November 2 -- Vote for Bush, or stay at home."

It is another Levin-inspired piece wherein I will rankle many, many Democrats and perhaps make one or two Republican friends.

I'll let you know how it goes, and will post the flyer on-line in PDF form for your use.

Reminds me of the joke flyer in 2000 - "The polls will be overcrowded on November 2, so only Republicans will be admitted to vote that day - all Democrats are directed to cast their ballots on Wednesday, November 3"...
