A desperate patient pulled his own teeth with pliers - because he could not get registered with an NHS dentist.
George Daulat, 47, downed a pint of vodka before carrying out the DIY surgery.
Earlier this year, queues of hundreds of people formed in his home town of Scarborough, north Yorkshire, in a rush by people to register with a dentist.
George,who suffers from severe rheumatoid arthritis, said: 'People will think I am crazy but they weren't living with the pain.
'In the end, I couldn't take any more. I had pliers. They were old and rusty but I knew they would do the job.
'I thought the vodka would dull the pain - but I was so wrong, it was agonising.
'I gripped the first tooth, squeezed and pulled. I felt this blinding pain, followed by a snap as the tooth cracked.
'I pulled again and managed to get the whole thing out.
'But the pain was still there and I went back for two more. I managed to get them out but the fourth wouldn't come.
'I tugged and tugged but I couldn't get it out and I have had to leave it halfway out.
'I am still searching for a dentist because the other tooth needs to be removed properly.'
Amazed dentists in Scarborough said there was no need for such drastic action - despite claims that George called 20 clinics in a bid to be treated.
John Carney, of local emergency NHS dentists the Northway Clinic, said: 'If he had rung here at 8.30am, he would have had an appointment that day.'
Earlier this year, NHS dentist Kenny Jones, of Stonehaven, had 1500 people queuing outside his surgery when he opened his doors to new patients.

Man, makes me glad I live in the good Ole U.S.A.. I called my dentist an hour ago and have an appointment for 2:00 tomorrow afternoon. : )
And if we put the Dems in, quality national health care like this can be ours!
The pain can get to be unbearable,that's the only time I go to a dentist.(It's a long story.)
I'm gonna gnaw off my own foot next!
