A Draft A'Coming? EMAIL THIS TO ANYONE IN COLLEGE YOU KNOW
self | self

Friends,

In recent days an email has been making its way to millions of accounts claiming that were Bush to be re-elected, he would reinstitute the “draft”.

Let’s examine the facts, shall we?

"A draft? It's just not going to happen," said Rep. John Kline, R-Minn., a member of the House Armed Services Committee.

Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska, the senior Democrat on the Senate Armed Services personnel subcommittee, agreed: "There is very little support in Congress for reinstating the draft."

MISLEADING E-MAIL

Perhaps those comments will help steady the nerves of many Americans apparently rattled by an e-mail that is circulating nationwide. It says that legislation is pending in Congress that would reinstitute the draft for the first time since 1973, starting as early as next spring. It also says that the administration is "quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections."

There is a kernel of truth to the allegation -- there is a bill pending that would restart the draft. But the Bush administration opposes it, as do Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry and the leadership of both the Democratic and Republican parties in Congress. Everyone remotely in a position to know is quite sure that the bill is going nowhere.

"I don't know anyone in the executive branch of the government who believes that it would be appropriate or necessary to reinstitute the draft," Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said in April.

The bill's primary sponsor is Rep. Charles Rangel, a liberal Democrat from New York who represents Harlem. Even he admitted that his bill won't pass. He said he introduced it to get people to discuss who is doing the fighting in Iraq...

There is a push for the draft, but unlike what lying, perverted fairy kerry spews, it's members of the liberal left demonicrats that have signed a proposal for the return of the draft. A local "Talk-radio host just announced it today on his show. Al Sharpton was one of them, and two liberal demonicrats in the U.S. Congress.

Democrats sponsor the draft bill... I personally think Fox should do an indepth analysis report on the issue... Kerry loses the issue because his party is sponsoring the draft... however, take it a step further. Right now the military recruitment levels are at all time highs... In fact the Navy is considering reducing additional end strength... that said, If John Kerry were elected the military would get out at their EAOS in droves they would also submit early retirment packages etc, why, because as you saw at the VFW speech and the NG speech Kerry is literally hated by a large majority of military leaders and enslisted. So the facts are that a vote for Kerry would be a vote for the draft because I submit... Kerry would have no choice to keep military end strength and Congress would have no choice but institute a draft under a Kerry administration.... That is why I say let FOX do an in depth report... get the concensus of military leaders etc... Call it "Reporting For Duty, The impact of Kerry on the draft"

Other demonicrats who are in favor of a return to the draft system are: Sen. Ernest Hollings (D-SC) and Reps. Nydia Velazsquez (D-NY), Pete Stark (D-Cal), and Charles Rangel (D-NY). Notice what party ALL of them belong to. And Kerry has the gaul to say Bush is pushing for the return of the draft system? HORSE PUCKY!!!!! It's his own party members!!!

It's hard to understand what you've written. Are you trying to say there's some good news -- are you saying their scare tactics haven't worked?

By the website I think he's trying to tell everyone that this is an "urban legend", made up on the web and sold to the public as though fact. Hmmmmmm. Does this sound like something that's happening right now over at C_BS?

If Kerry gets elected, there will have to be a draft,
because most of our present military will not re-enlist,
and those thinking of signing up will not. Unless, of
course, Kerry intends to just surrender the whole country.
We can't rule that out.
_______________

And it's not just the draft. Check the title and the
text of HR 163. It's National Service.

Ask Kerry & Edwards, who pretend to oppose the Draft,
if they also oppose National Service.
_____________________

Standard summary #4F:

Yes there are draft proposals, almost all Democrat,
such as HR 163, which is entirely Dem.

They have little to do with military manpower
requirements.

As intended-to-fail proposals, they are straw men set up
so that Kerry+Edwards can promise to oppose them (even
though they probably support them - see below). When do
you need to worry about what Kerry's plans are on an
issue? When he takes a position, any position.

Bush already opposes draft proposals, but don't expect
the legacy media to tell you this. They also won't pass
either the House or the Senate, but Bush wouldn't sign
them if they did.

As serious proposals, "draft" revival proposals have
everything to do with Universal National Service -
stealing two years from every life, then 3, then 4,
and why stop there ...

And National Service has nothing to do with service.
It has everything to do with indoctrination of the slaves.
Which means that if the "progressives" ever get control
again, kiss your liberty goodbye.

From HR 163: "...or a period of civilian service in
furtherance of the national defense and homeland
security, and for other purposes."

"other purposes"

The Democrats would love to bring back slavery.
Egalitarian slavery, but slavery all the same
(except for their own kids, of course).

This will go over well in the debates :)

Yes, sorry I wasn't clear and just sarcastic.

I'm saying that the Dems are always using scare tactics and it's becoming obvious. They tried it last election with the seniors and Medicare. Now, since they can't do that any longer, they moved on to a new scare tactic.

Frankly the draft should be considered. It may help our youth understand the price of freedom should not fall on just the few that were willing to serve. It is unfair that they should be the only ones risking their lives while college students march in the streets in protest of a war that they do not understand.

The draft supports a patriotic America. My father was drafted and still keeps his patches and metals with great pride. I served in the Army as a volunteer. Military discipline is not a bad thing in this generation of confused kids. It gives distinction and honor. Not bad qualities if you ask me.

I have to disagree with you. Although a lot of youth are stupid and immoral, not all are. You have to be in a young person's shoes to understand how angry it makes us disiplined youngsters when some 60 year old guy says, "Our youth aren't disiplined enough. Let's force them into the military!" And plus, I don't think most people want to see the military turned into a disipline school instead of a force for freedom around the world.

Don't forget that Dan Rather's DNCBS News ran the story as well, only weeks after running the Forged Document story!
