On August 31, 2004, Steve Pitkin signed an Affadavit. Steve wanted to apologize to Vietnam veterans for what he did and said at the Winter Soldier Investigation.

"The VVAW found me during a difficult time in my life, and I let them use me to advance their political agenda. They pressured me to tell their lies, but that's no excuse for what I did. I just want people to know the truth and to make amends as best I can. I'd hate to see the troops serving today have to go through what Vietnam veterans did."

My name is Steve Pitkin, age 20, from Baltimore. I served with the 9th Division from May of '69 until I was airvaced in July of '69. I'll testify about the beating of civilians and enemy personnel, destruction of villages, indiscriminate use of artillery, the general racism and the attitude of the American GI toward the Vietnamese. I will also talk about some of the problems of the GIs toward one another and the hassle with officers.

but disobeyed orders and suggested that the Navy Command
simply send in a Psychological Warfare team to be
friend the villagers with food, hospital supplies,
and better educational facilities."

"I'm not aware that any of those who actually testified has ever been exposed as a fraud, or that their testimony has been found by any credible source to be false."

I disagree with this statement. WSI witness Steve Pitikin has recently recanted, and WSI Joe Bangert's testimony sounds mighty incredible.

Caution: no one can locate a Navy report widely claimed to have debunked the WSI - don't fall into the trap of echoing that claim.

I think I can be of some service. I was one of the actual "combat veterans" that "testified" at WSI, although I was coached by Kerry on what to say. The reason for that was that I never saw any "war crimes", but let's just say that If I didn't cooperate with the program I was going to have a long walk back to Baltimore (Where I lived), and well, you had to be there to see the look on other peoples faces who emphasized they wanted me up and talking to the press
