Well...
Neither are true.
Many hurricanes have their origins in what are called tropical or easterly waves that occur when a patch of hot air pushes off of the Sahara and out over the Atlantic. This will create a low pressure zone over the water as moisture begins to rise. In turn, air toward the top of the zone will be turned to the right as it approaches (because it is rising), and then to the left as it passes the zone (because it is descending). Depending upon the amplitude (how far north and then how far south) this "wave" is causing the air to move, there exists the possibility that thunderstorms will develop. This will cause local instability in the air, and may serve to close off (make circular) the circulation in the area--a tropical depression has been borne, and we're off to the races.
But these storms also originate over the Caribbean and Gulf out of patches of disturbed weather, particularly early and late in the season, and have nothing to do with Africa.
Now, Australia. Hate to disappoint the dear guy, but...
A fairly common feature.
Woody was really before my time. I was too young to really care that much about college football when he retired. Now Schembechler I remember. I actually kinda liked him. He reminds me of my late Grandfather, with the same cantankerous, grumpy attitude and even looks like him.
And I remember the Bear. I remember he announced he was retiring after LSU beat 'Bama in '82 or '83. He knew he no longer could run one of the greatest dynasties of all time, and that the Tide was in decline.
And of course I think the last link to those legends: Bobby Bowden, Lou Holtz, and Joe Paterno(a good Pubbie), will most likely be hanging it up by the end of the decade if not sooner. Holtz is under the most heat, while Paterno is starting to feel it. Bowden spoiled the Seminole fans so much that the occasional rebuilding year is no longer acceptable. But even if they were still winning 10 games a year, age is catching up on them.
The best of the new generation are Bob Stoops, Pete Carroll(who bombed in the pros, but is just demolishing the PAC-10 and everybody else in USC's path), Nick Saban(gotta give props to LSU of course), Mike Trammel, and when he returns, which he will, Steve Spurrier.
It may look like Mountain Dew, but it's good. It means you are detoxifying. Drink 64 ozs of water with those vitamins.
Picked this one for you 'cause I know what a softy you are for dogs! LOL
I think for me it is a matter like using computers.. I need to know what button to push to get the desired results.. I have no deep need to understand all the "under workings" ... same with weahter.. I am more a cause/effect person.. w/o needing to know all the ittu bitty details. (okay, maybe I am lazy)
Yep, the flick.
But it's also what NHC and the NWS call it too. That's because they chose not to name the hurricane that briefly made an appearance as they felt it would be too confusing. But the folks at NHC get confused with "no name" so, "Perfect Storm".
Yes, till.. lotsa water. are you familiar with Fit for LIfe? That is where I first read of need for LOTS of water intake.
was the perfect storm a real story/real people???
guess you know I am a big time movie enthusiast. Perfect storm was NOT higly rated.. but as I am a water, storm, Clooney (yea man) fan, I would see it anyway.
I liked it..not one I will buy DVD (yet) or see twice. but worth the time.
As a fan of the Big Ten, I still have a soft spot for Joe Pa.
But if you want an example of an "old school" coach in today's world, look no further than Ohio State's Jim Tressell. He has integrity, heart, and a winning mentality. And he makes sure his student athletes toe the line..case in point, Maurice Clarett.
Most coaches would have turned a blind eye at Clarett's antics, but Tressell, and AD Andy Geiger strive to run a clean program at OSU.
They have my respect, as a Buckeye fan...whatever our season brings.
Freep on!! Love y'all!!
Oh dear.. computers to me are like cars. they work or they are "expeltive, another expletive"...
sing thru the pain?
Going to call it a night.. very intense & long next few days..
God bless all & please all lets say special prayers for a miracle that the powers that be will find the scum before they kill the Brit.
(and, where are you John? okay? just being a soldier ?)
One of the things I tried to do was talk to many of his former and current players as I could find. There were after all about 28 years worth of them. I located about two dozen living in my area of Ohio. I was able to reach over a dozen of them. One of those former players was a guy who had been kicked off the team for breaking training rules.
To my surprise I could not find one Ohio State football player, who had played for Woody who would give me a negative quote about him.
I finally asked one of the players, a Henry County man, who had been kicked off the team, how he could respect a man who used verbal and physical abuse to motivate players.
He said, "You don't understand. Woody screamed and slapped but he never put us down." He continued,"Woody screamed that we were far better than we were playing. The problem was never with the player or his talent. The problem was always our motivation and work ethic." He went on to say, "It is hard to stay mad at a man who is constantly screaming that you're far more talented and can play far better than you think you are.".
He said most people think Woody was about loud and violent put downs. He said Woody did put ups not put downs. He just did them in a Marine Gunny Sgt. style.
Here is one of the funny Woody Hayes stories. Woody used to take off his OSU Baseball style cap in the middle of one of his motivational speeches to the team. He would tear the hat into pieces for effect. I think it was Vic Janowitz(sp) who got one of his hats and had the seams sewn with high test fishing line. When Woody tried to tear it apart he failed.
So after two or three tries Woody just put it back on his head and continued the vocal tirade.
Woody used to buy cheap Timex watches. He would take it off his wrist and stomp it to pieces to make a point. One day as Woody was stomping a Timex, one of the players said... "Damnit Woody Stop Killing Time" That was the last time Woody stomped on watch.
Earl Bruce once told Woody that he could not tell when the temper tantrums were put ons and when they were real. Woody answered it is not important for you to know. It is only important for me to know.
A lot of Woody Hayes was an act. But Woody's teams had the highest graduation rates and hightest grade point averages of any team in major College Football. And the fact that I could not find a player, even off the record, who would say anything negative about Woody spoke volumes to me.
Hey, movie diva ~~ just saw "National Lampoon's Gold Diggers". It was a stupid, stupid movie but so funny. There is one scene at the very end of the movie where I almost had hysterics it was so strange/stupid. In fact, I was laughing so hard that everyone in the theater finally "got with it" and started laughing just as hard. I'd probably give it about a D+, but still funny!
Gotta tell someone! I have tickets to the President's discussion on education in Valley Forge, PA tomorrow. Hoping for great seats, but, have to take the Muffinette to Kindergarten first. Biscuit has preschool then a babysitter. Pettifogger household education taken care of for one day, at least!
