"I just heard the local weather man calling for a nip of frost tonight. " Really? My, but the weather has been erratic of late. You're not that far from me, and I came home and had to turn the AC on for a bit. I've had it off for a few days.
When I got home today, I discovered that someone had tried to break into my house. I don't think they actually did. Nothing seems to be missing, but the storm door was ajar and the frame on the inner door is busted. The actual lock is hanging by a couple of loose screws. Now I will be afraid to leave for work in the morning. And wouldn't you know that it would happen when my landlady is out of town.

Libby, you don't sound like you're taking this break-in too seriously. I would. Did you even notify the police? And are you armed? No, don't answer that publicly.
I don't mean to alarm you, but you have a high risk job dealing with all the scumbags that might blame you for their circumstances in court rulings.
Do be careful and do be vigilant.

Stay aware, sl. And get some deadbolts.
