Thank you. I was experimenting last night (bored to death) trying to do the old Hollywood style B&W photos.

ADVICE FROM THE UN.......

Swarming Locusts: if You Can't Beat Them, Eat Them

NICOSIA (Reuters) - In their struggle to cope with an invasion of desert locusts, Cypriot farmers may do well to turn to a U.N. site that counsels if you can't beat them eat them.

Locusts are rich in protein and can be stir-fried, boiled or roasted, is one nugget of information provided by the Rome-based Food and Agriculture Organization (news - web sites) in a drive to help deal with locust swarms that have landed in Cyprus from Africa.

"Here are a few local recipes from locust-affected countries," a page on the FAO Web site says.

One recipe from a tribe in southern Africa advises grinding roast locust to a fine powder to eat on a journey. "The legs, when dried, are especially relished for their pleasant taste."

"Take several dozen locust adults, preferably females, slit the abdomen lengthwise and stuff a peanut inside," a Cambodian recipe suggested. "Then lightly cook the locusts in a wok or hot frying pan, adding a little oil and salt to taste. Be careful not to overcook or burn them."

Eating locusts has been documented from Biblical times. According to the Christian new testament, John the Baptist survived on locusts and honey when he was in the desert -- even though some question whether it was locusts he actually ate as the Greek name "acridae" can also mean the tips of plants.

The locusts reached eastern Mediterranean countries in early November after the worst infestation recorded in Africa for more than a decade.

Shoppers rush to pyramid Wal-Mart
Bargain-hungry Mexican shoppers have flocked to a new Wal-Mart supermarket that environmentalists claim will threaten one of the nation's treasures.
Around 200 shoppers queued for hours to be the first to enter the store, which is half a mile from the ancient Mexican pyramids at Teotihuacan.

"People need the well-being of their families more than culture," said one.

Environmental groups had argued that the store was too close to the ruins and would erode the local way of life.

While the Wal-Mart store was overflowing with shoppers on its opening day, a handful of local opponents kept a vigil outside the 2,000-year-old Teotihuacan pyramids.

They pledged to continue a protest that has drawn international attention and prompted a national debate.

Buffer zone

"It's like planting the staff of globalization in the heart of ancient Mexico," said Homero Aridjis, a writer and environmentalist who led a national drive to block the store.

"It is supremely symbolic."

Mexico's national anthropology institute that oversees the ruins - located outside Mexico City - has said that the store poses no threat.

The United Nations and the Paris-based International Council on Monuments and Sites also "signed-off" the store.

It is located in a buffer zone that is part of the archaeological site, but where hundreds of other, mainly smaller businesses have sprouted in the past decade or more.

Awesome black and white; were you a pinup girl in a previous life? I like the old-fashioned pinups you do too.

I sent my brother and one sister (she's practically his twin, very close in age) the other one. He's been dating an girl from Ireland on and off the last couple of years. I think it's on again based on what my sister just wrote me now... Seriously, I think every woman who has ever met my brother has fallen in love! Good looking, tall, straight, modest, and intelligent men are hard to find.

Thousands of Troops Storm Fallujah

Nov 8, 11:28 AM (ET)

NEAR FALLUJAH, Iraq (AP) - Thousands of U.S. Marines and Army troops punched their way on Monday into two Fallujah neighborhoods where insurgents are considered the strongest, kicking off a massive assault that seeks to put an end to half a year of insurgent control of the Sunni Muslim city.

The troops, backed by the 1st Cavalry Division's tanks and armor, swarmed into the city's northwestern Jolan district, the warren-like historic heart of Fallujah.

At the same time, some 4,000 troops went into the northeastern Askari district.

AP Photo/Bilal Hussein -- This photographer is WITH the terrorists, providing them with publicity for their propoaganda, and witnessing the murder of American and Iraqi soldiers. They (the criminals and the photographer) should all be shot.
