Relating to that link you posted, and the article I read by the solder, I was having dinner with my son and his wife last night when she was relating to us about a guy that works at her company but was on leave from Iraq and on his way back for the second or third time. He is chomping on the bit to get back, by the way.

He is biv-wacked, (is that the right word?) in one of Saddams palaces, and was asked why he is so white with all the sun there and it being summer still more or less, and he said he gets very little out-door time. He evidently is in charge of handling the re-building of the schools, and other stuff like that. Wish I could remember more details.... but he did say that things were going really well there, they were all proud of what they were doing, and were well welcomed by the largest majority of the people. They have made many ties with them, and he misses them when he leaves.

He told many stories about how many times a day they have to blow up these ammunition dumps.. sometimes the size of huge rooms and up to five times a day. It is loaded with ammunitions still and they have a hard time keeping up with it.

He also told about how fast the Iraqies are repairing roads that are being constantly blown up.. It used to take a few days, and now they have the repairs down to an hour or less. The bridges still take a few days, but they never stop making the repairs faster and faster.

He told of a man that lived in the outskirts, and had two very big anti-tank? bombs outside his house and had been there for years and were all rusted out and falling apart. He put them on the back of his pick-up truck and drove them into town so the soldiers could blow them up for him. They took one look at the truck and turned white. They didn't dare move it, as it was so unstable that they had to blow it where it stood. It took out all the windows of the surrounding buildings in the area. How that man got it there is unbelievable and he turned pure white when they touched it off.

They bought that old guy a new pick-up truck so he was very thankful, and I'm sure felt very lucky to boot. ;)

He says that the media here has no idea how well Iraq is coming along. He is very glad to be there, and doesn't want to come back for good until things get better still.

I wish I could have heard all he had to say, and even remember all she was telling me, but I figured I'd relate what I could remember and tell you folks.

We had a great time at our favorite restaurant, and my son kept me in stitches all night.... and I have leftovers of Rack of Lamb, spinach pie and gravy covered Greek rice for supper... along with my sons pork chop.. lol.

A good time was had by all.... ;)

Thanks for that uplifting report Gran.
It makes me proud of our men and women in the military, and all the more furious with the Moores and Kerrys and Frenchies and UN buttkissers of the world.

I was so thrilled to hear this from the "Horses Mouth" so to speak. I wish I had heard it all in the house instead of in the restaurant. I could have gotten more info and maybe have remembered more too.

I'm so sick of how everything is betrayed here in our media.

Oh well, I am disgusted with just about everything that is happening, so why pick just one?

Thanks for your thoughts.

The "acting on" anything is the sin, not the genetics, or predisposition, or whatever it is that inclines us to do wrong in any area of our lives, imo.

I need more coffee before trying to think...

Cheers, everyone, TGIF.

Whoa! what a feast.

My nephew brought over some venison steak which we made into a most hearty stew (spuds, carrots, onions, peppers, tomatoes) last evening.

Good chow for our little cool front weather.

Joke from the Texas thread:

A LITTLE BOY SETS DAN RATHER STRAIGHT-

.....Dan Rather of CBS news was seated next to little Tommy on the plane when Rather turned to the boy and said, "Let's talk, I've heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passengers.

Little Tommy, who had just opened his book, closed it slowly, and said to Rather, "What would you like to discuss?"

"Oh, I don't know" said Rather, "How about? Should we keep Bush as president or elect Kerry?"

"OK" said Little Tommy, "That could be an interesting topic but let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow and a deer all eat grass. The same stuff. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out flat patties, and a horse excretes clumps of dried grass. Why do you think that is?"

"Jeez" said Rather, "I have no idea."

"Well then," said Little Tommy, "How is it you feel qualified to discuss who should run this country when you don't know sh_t?"....

Eleven Christians who were demonstrating at a public homosexual-rights event in Philadelphia have been arrested and charged – they say unjustly.

According to a statement from Life and Liberty Ministries, on Sunday the Christian protesters were "preaching God's Word" to the crowd of people attending the outdoor Philadelphia OutFest event and displaying banners with biblical messages.

Not long after the group began their activity, members of the Pink Angels, which the statement describes as "a militant mob of homosexuals," confronted the protesters and attempted to drown out their message with whistles, while hiding the signs with large sheets of pink Styrofoam.

"Even though the Christians obeyed all laws, city ordinances and lawful requests by the Philadelphia police officers on hand," said Life and Liberty Ministries, "they were promptly and without warning arrested and hauled off to jail, where they spent 21 hours before being released on Monday morning."

Eight charges were filed against the protesters, including three felonies and five misdemeanors. The charges were: criminal conspiracy, possession of instruments of crime, reckless endangerment of another person, ethnic intimidation, riot, failure to disperse, disorderly conduct, and obstructing highways.

The “ethnic intimidation” charge, explains Robert Knight, writing for Concerned Women for America's Culture and Family Institute, was made possible by Pennsylvania’s Ethnic Intimidation and Institutional Vandalism Act – that state's “hate crimes" law – to which the newest "victim" category of "sexual orientation" was recently added.

Although some of the charges reportedly have been dropped since the 11 defendants were released, the Culture and Family Institute report quotes Philadelphia Police spokeswoman Officer Maria Ibrahim as saying the remaining charges are "criminal conspiracy," "failure to disperse," "disorderly conduct" and "obstructing a highway."

Responding to the riot charge, the group's statement said: "Despite the fact that our behavior was above reproach and we were attacked by a mob of whistle-blowing, obscenity-screaming God haters, the Christians, and only the Christians, were charged."

Said Dennis Green, director of Life and Liberty Ministries: "The Scriptures are filled with accounts of faithful followers of the Messiah who proclaimed the Gospel despite severe persecution. We are called upon and commanded to do no less. To shrink back would not be biblical Christianity."

The organization Repent America sponsored the protest.

"This is one of the most remarkable and unlawful actions by police that I have ever witnessed," said Michael Marcavage, director of Repent America. "Their blatant disregard of the law by allowing hecklers to impede our way, block our message and then arrest us, is inexcusable, especially by police officers who are specially trained to protect civil rights.

"Christians are now being labeled as 'haters' and any speech that homosexuals perceive to be intimidating, such as our Christian witness at OutFest, makes them a prime target for 'hate crimes legislation.'"

Continued Marcavage: "We are clearly 'not guilty' of these crimes, and with the help of our video footage, we shall be vindicated of these trumped-up charges."

The CFI account quotes Brian Fahling of the American Family Association's Center for Law and Policy, a public interest law firm which is representing the Christian defendants.

"We’re going to do whatever it takes to ensure that the Philadelphia Police Department and the city are held accountable for this," Fahling told CFI. "As far as we can tell, this was utterly uncalled for and has no legal justification."

The group is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 18 at the Philadelphia Criminal Justice Center.

You caught that O'Neill / Koppel moment? I saw it coming due to Freep and caught it...

Koppel would really like to say the after action report is better than Kerry's version, so why don't we all just believe the Vietnamese and go along with it?

O'neil had to step out of bounds to keep Koppel from getting away with it.

Hi Grannie,

I usually keep quiet, you know, but your story is so close to one I have here, across the street from me is a lady whom I've known for twenty years, and her daughter -- I helped her with algebra in high school -- she married a marine and he was in the forefront of the invasion of Iraq; drove into Bagdad International Airport with the first troops, and was there when Ted Koppel arrived and interviewed him. He has a series of war stories from that tour of combat duty.

His unit was then deployed to Korea, where he reenlisted, and his unit has since been sent back to Iraq, where he is now on the edge of Faluja, waiting for the order to liberate that town. He saw it as his civic duty to reenlist for the sake of all the other guys in his platoon who need a seasoned leader for the combat coming up. He has said the change there is so unbelievable over the course of one year America has no idea.

He commands a Bradley fighting vehicle and gets to see all the action from the gunner's turret, and he has a CD full of all the times he had the chance to pause and photograph what had just happened. Last time he came home he shared with me the uncensored version. Talk about one tough guy.

I am still shaking my head in disbelief that Ted Koppel would air this and take the word of Communist VietCong over The Boston Globe reporting ... David Brinkley's book about John Kerry and most of all American Vietnam Vets.

This in my opinion this was an all time low .. and yes this was even worse then Dan Rather and CBS pushing Forged Military Documents onto the public about the President's National Guard Service.

I wonder if Ted Koppel realizes just how insulting he was in demanding John O'Neill (A Vietnam Vet) to answer the charges made by the Vietcong .. aka the enemy ??

Some how I doubt it ... otherwise he would never have done such a thing .. what an absolute disgrace.

I hear you,

I try to have some 'quiet time' before heading to bead.. looking at the sky, reading old books, finish up my journal, but I was piqued enough by the Freep comments to go ahead and watch that.

Ted Koppel did the very same thing when in Iraq, the guest of the troops he was 'embedded' with. When in Iraq, he wasn't too gracious, and it could be excused as being inconvenienced by living with the troops, but he wasn't home more than three days after leaving Bagdad IA before he was back on message about how stupid this whole thing was and how doomed to failure.

Something about being Liberal, successful, and being a recognized spokesman calls for being sly, incredibly devious, and disingenuous in setting up questions. Now we have his proposition that Kerry lied in his biography, again in his autobiography, the Swifties lied, and only the after-action report agrees with the VietCong/Vietnamese, so how could we refute these poor peasants who have nothing to lose by telling the truth?

Nauseating.

(P.S. they should have finished digging up the US weapons when that peasant woman offered to pull up the corn in her garden to let them get started. did you see that? She said they were still there buried just under the ground. How could they miss that scoop?)

Rush is replaying it right now. !!!!!!!!!
