*ugh*
That's bad.
Extraordinarily bad.
Thanks for the explanation.
(Even if I, being a norther, don't really 'get it' as well as I would like.) What is bad?

Went to a pig roast. Isn't it a little too early for hog killing time in Arkansas?
To: television is just wrong

Oh that's a wooden flag our son made us. Al just repainted it. Will post another pic later where it shows better.

The a-holes population growing after "He needed killing" stopped being a valid defense.

Here tiz.

Actually, hogs aren't a big industry in Arkansas, so I guess they kill 'em whenever they want to. My understanding is that they have these things a couple of times a year. But this was out in Flippin, which is Deliverance territory, so who knows. Maybe these were the hogs that made a poor showing at the fair. LOL!

Hog killing time is after the first frost, so the meat won't spoil during the butchering. I haven't been to one since I was a kid but some of my folks in Kentucky still butcher their own hogs and cure their own hams.

Al has way too much energy...beautiful paint job there.

I can remember "Butchering Weekends" with my Grandfather and his brothers: everyone pitched in to do what needed to be done to prepare the larder for winter. One year Uncle Dave added so dang much sage that it made the sausage inedible...but what great times they were, back when.

Al's Dad raised and butchered hogs too. We got our share sometimes. We still have the huge salt pork crocks up in the barn, and how I loved that thick back bacon.
To: grannie9
grannie, open up those barn doors and show us the stuff?
I'll bet it is a treasure trove.
