Well....that spreading it around is one thing I'm worried about - the feeders seem to cost about $350 - but I don't know if I could put the round bales in there with our little tractor....We are in Ga. and several folks here put the round bales out in pasture - Guess I'll have to weigh cost of wasted hay against cost of additional equipment - Might just try one round bale without holder and see what happens

I'm sure some on this thread are tired of hearing me tote the advantages of complete pellets, but it's something you might consider.

If you have enough pasture for horses to pick at I think pellets are really the way to go. Takes the guess work out of if they are getting the right balance of roughage, the are very high quality roughage, NO waste, no hauling, no storage, no worry of moldy hay, and cost is comparable to hay and grain cost.

They're made by Purina, Purina horse chow 100. I feed 3 x's a day, but you can get by with feeding 2 x's a day. The average horse gets about 12-15 lbs a day. That sounds like alot, but remember they are not getting "hay". The hay is in the pellets.

Maybe they will be fine and have manners that the queen of England would be proud of - you never know.

PS (If I get round bales I have to get a feeder - if I get a feeder I have to get a new tractor - if I get a new tractor I have to get a new barn - if I get a new barn I will have more room for more horses - and if I buy more horses than I better go buy some more round bales.
