The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Is your trailer aluminium or shiny? He might be seeing his reflection, and doesn't understand what it is. I would suggest tying a hay bag in front of him, but remembered you don't feed hay.

Careful ladies, talking about other posters can get the heap of trouble following you here ;~D

ROTFL...Oh so many times, I have wanted to say things to other posters, but I remember.

Don't take it personally. It's an open forum, you speak your mind.

The detachable stuff in the helmet sounds like the way to go!
Indeed. I wish that my old show helmet had it, simply for hygenic reasons. :-p My new schooling helmet is so comfy that I could wear it to bed. Of course, that could also be because the padding is new... It's a troxel Duratec Gold I think. It was was the only troxel that was comfortable enough and fit my fat head!

No my trailer is just a plain one. I was thinking tho of hanging a hay net. I do feed hay occasionly, just not regular.

Actually, been thinking I might put the trailer in the arena and hand his feed bucket on it and lead him up to it that way. After some just walking around it for a few days.

Really? Wouldn't the mods put a stop to it? Personal attacks are generally not tolerated here.

There are quite a few more, I went back and checked the pings. If you want me to mail them to you privately or publicly, I'll do either. We really do need to know who to avoid. Getting a lynch mob together is such a cowardly thing to do. And that's exactly what happened.

That looks like me, except for the moustache. Come to think of it, give me a few more years and I'll probably have the moustache, too.

Right, personal attacks aren't allowed, but neither is posting about a poster without pinging them.... I don't want to make too much of it, but it's often it often gets seen and reported to them.

How heavy is your trailer? I know you aren't going to tie right away... but just for public input, I would be ~very reluctant to tie to it when not attached to the truck. a hard pulling horse might be able to move it.

Ohhhhh, I didn't know that. Oh well, I'm not gonna lose any sleep over those cowardly mobsters. I've studied mob mentality in college psychology, it's very interesting. It's also very disturbing to get into the mind of people that need to get a mob together to torment someone. Makes me want to stay home behind locked gates.

They get into a mob and attack. Too big of pu$$y$ to do it alone.

There may be a few more."

Yea - I've been hit by one of them.

It would be neat to have a site devoted to posting personal appraisals of members. That would make it much easier to identify who to take seriously. It may be a bit painful to some of the recievers of bad news, but we all wind up doing it anyway in our heads. Obviously, we need to keep it real clean and well supported - possibly even with a rebuttal section for the recipients.

Oh I wouldn't tie a horse to a trailer not hooked to a truck:). I saw a horse drag an unhooked trailer across my front yard one time. It was mine. The truck I use to pull the trailer, isn't getting used much now so I could just leave it out there hooked up all the time.

About time to start another thread anyway.... we're too big. I've put this off for far too long.

Great idea! That's exactly what we do on ebay, to know who the trouble makers are and who the nice people are that enjoy civil, non-insulting debate. This mob stuff is going to run off a lot of nice people. I had no idea this kind of thing was going on until someone else gave me the heads up.

Just wanted to make sure everyone else knew that too. I know someone else who thought they could work on loading a horse without it being hooked to the truck too... and it tipped back as soon as the reluctant horse finally stood on it.
