Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
:')
There is a pony in Okie's pasture. The reason he is there , instead of someone's lawn ornament is that no one can catch him:') He has no fear of the big boys and they don't mess with him.
Boy, no other advice then. She might be okay being ponied off of Cyn but neither Cyn or your hubby are experienced enough to give that a whirl I think.
I just have to get her past whatever mental block keeps her from wanting to go. someone on the ground urging her forward might help. I didn't have that before, I was alone... But yeah... she plants hard, she'll pull ya right off if you don't let go ;~D
We had an evil cow once that had to be able to be led around the arena to show. Talk about planting. We walked him tied to the truck. Got some dents and scratches (on the truck)but he led beautifully at the show:')
Like horses, I think you are supposed to teach them when they are only 80 pounds ;~D
My son went with his Ag teacher to pick up his cute little under 80 lb little calf. AWWW how cute it was going to be. He come back with a baby cow from hell that got bigger every day. a real head butter. She went nuts during the practice show and there was talk from grown ranchers about shooting her. Our mild mannered vet were using words I had never heard before. My son just kept working with her though. He really did use his dads old truck and taught her to lead. It didn't hurt her. Just made her mad. Not something for a sweet little pony though.
We took the truck away from him when the ran it into the side of the house though(he wasn't pulling the cow at the time) :')
The ranch Jenny and I use to work on raised long horn show cows. They taught them to lead by tying them to a donkey.

Heh...
Sortof reminds me of a neighbor of a friend. His steer got loose and had come up Bob's driveway so Bob herded it into his own pasture till he learned who it belonged to. Guy shows up with a rope. Bob says... "What the heck you plan to do with that?" "Gotta catch that steer" "Uhuh.. this oughta be interesting" The guy got drug about 50 yards, till his denial wore off about the idea being a good one, and he went home and got a trailer to run him into and get him home.
LOL
ROTFL. Eddie has no idea what I'm posting. I started hearing moos and horse squeals and thought what the heck....Something he put on his computer. Now it's chickens. My bedroom sounds like a barnyard:')
moooooo!
Aren't those just the cutest things you ever did see!
Nice pole corrals seem to be overkill... ;~D
AWWW, I want one of those lol. They are so cute. Are they just pets? Can you use them for stuff?
Yeh, I think the dog run would work just fine :)
They make really wonderful buggy horses.
I like Andrea the best:')
