Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
They're definitely communicating to each other. But what exactly I wouldn't guess.

Don't think I've ever seen something like that before. Everyone's feeling okay?
Well not to sound like your old vet but from a distance they do look like mamma and baby to me:')
You know you never say much about how Okie does for Eddie. I'm just curious, would like to know if he's working good. Has he ever bucked? Does Eddie get to ride much.
Becky
Oh, one reason I'm asking about him is Celia came in the shop today and was asking.
Becky
Everyone's feeling fine! A few minutes earlier they were frolicking around, and quit the action when I came out with the camera, like they always do :~\.
Those two mares are becoming really bonded. They follow each other around all day. The separation issues may no longer be Bay and the pony, but Pony and Cyn.
Is the bonding equal for both, or is the pony bonded to Cyn but Cyn not so, or visa versa.
Does that make sense:)?
Becky
Being my lowly saddle boy didn't last long. Eddie one of those people that does things well right off the bat. I do things ok after awhile but stuff doesn't come easy for me. I have to work on it. (He is a better rider) Their personalities suit each other. Okie has never been a problem riding. No bucking or anything. He neck reins really good now too. He still likes to test and be mischievious on the ground occasionally and he's just too darn smart but that's about it. I'll get you some pics when I can.
I think it's equal. Hard to tell who's on top in the pecking order... the pony is a stronger personality than Cyn is, but hard to say who, if anyone, is in charge. They are just like Tom and Jerry everywhere they go. And they play hard - Lots of rearing and horseplay. If anyone were going to be super herd-bound, I'd rather it be Bay and Cyn... I want Cyn to think she has to follow me on trail ;~D
And I hate to make our leaving any harder on the pony than it already was.
I may switch out their stalls so Bay is in the middle between Cyn and the pony. Those two girls sit and fiddle and fuss at each other all night long.
Tell her he's very happy and that we really enjoy him and thank you:')
I think it's always hard when there is one left behind alone.
Too bad you don't have anyone around to ride her.
No more babies yet?
Have you ever thought of ponying her out when you go for a ride?
We have... we've thought of making her a pack-pony so we could go back-country riding in style. She could carry our stuff!
Heh.. but right now I wouldn't give her any stuff I couldn't afford to lose ;~D
I think if you ponied her off Bay, you'd be okay. I'd try it in pasture first. She'd probably really enjoy it.
Yeah - not enough reason to have kids yet though ;~D
I have... she has a mental block issue that we need to get her over. She won't trot when I pony her. She'll walk, but not as fast as Bay walks, and she would let herself be dragged along rather than speed up. It needs some more work.
