The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

LOL. Probably happens more often than I want to think about. I found this the other day.

Which type of horse are you most likely to have an accident on?

A. A 10 y/o stallion that is pastured and rode.

B. A five y/o gelding that has been trained

C. A 16 y/o gentle mare that has years of riding experience in all disciplines

Uh Huh. I answered correctly and then turned around Sunday and got caught day dreaming, slumped and in a false sense of security.

What would be the advantages of registering Sarah Lee as a pinto for future breeding purposes, if she really is a grade?

Would you be able to register her?

It's metal, painted a gold, but is faded now. I wouldn't say it is shiny.

Don't know. Hair had told me awhile back that some paints are registered but not "registered" The stable owner trying to get me previous owner info. She called me about something else a few minutes ago and told me I could always register her as a pinto by color.

LOL...I've heard of people that have taken it:), but as hard as I've been told it is on a horses stomach?? I would be afraid to take it.

Heather's brother, sister, and mother rode Rocky today, just at a walk. He actually acted like he had more energy then he ever has, it must have done something for him. I gave him another dose when they got done. Will give him some more this weekend. Hopefully he'll be over what ever was the problem last night.

Heather and I rode Rusty and Harley for about 3 1/2 hours. Rusty was tired. Tomorrow I'll take them down to the arena and practice barrels. Hopefully his attitude will be a bit better:).

The valuable registration to get would be her Paint registration, if she had it. If possible, since she's known, find out from the original ownerwhether she was ever registered.

Pinto registration is just a color registry, and more fashionable for non-quarter horse types like Arabs and Saddlebreds that have white on 'em... anything other than paints.

I have the big ole bottle of tabs, which I mash up and turn into a paste anyhow, so I could have skipped the middle steps and just bought paste ;~D
So.... how much paste would you take... is it broken out by weight on the syringe? ;~D

The tube is broken down in grams. I give my horses 2 grams at a time.

Same dosage.... my tabs are one gram each, and I give 1-2 when I give it, depending on the circumstance.
