The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Thanks, MissT .. Her kids are teenagers, so, yes they are close to their mama.

She was a special special person.

Cav, I'll bet I've got 80 acres of water you can have. I mean, there's water EVERYWHERE! Somebody's put up a duck blind in the middle of a cotton field/lake on my way to work. They might get a little wet though, coz the water has risen since they put it up and now it's quite a piece from "shore".

I'm so sorry to hear that. My prayers go out to her husband and children and you.

Oh boy, that is the saddest thing I've read in a long time. I'm a cancer survivor and I know how it feels to think you are leaving your children.

Prayers for your friend and her family.

I think it's going pretty good. For no more advertizing then we did, I've had a little more traffic thru everyday. I've sold about 40 shirts all together since Sat.

Tonight is the parade, hopefully that will help let people know we're there.

Mack has found a program that will let us design our own or do custom stuff for people. We think that's where the most money is going to be made rather then the retail. Will involve getting a computer, printer and scanner down there. Probably get that all done after the first of the year.

Duchess, wasn't it you that said you had a shirt with a bull on it that said "Doesn't play well with others?"

Funny thing, that has been the biggest seller by far. Mostly wives buying it for husbands. I told Mack last night that;s kind of scary to think there are that many people out there wanting to announce they don't get along with people:) Another good seller is "Ask me if I care....".

HHHMMMMMMM...what does that tell us about our society:)

OH, BTW, wanted to say thanks for the tip about the milk jugs in the water troughs. Sounds like a good idea. I'll try it.

Glad to hear business is as good as you'd like! I bet the parade will bring good traffic tonight!

Custom shirts would be popular, I'd think.

Hears hoping you T Shirt all of Bixby tonight:'). I'm fixing to leave too. Joshua has his play at 7 and then we are going to the company party. I pray he does well. He's practiced so hard. Did you read my post on TOS? I don't know what to think now but I do know that even if he gets up there and starts crying , I'll still be the proudest granny there:')

Not necessarily. The dynamics of a wild herd change constantly. New mares are added, old mares are lost, the stallion changes. It's rarely the same more than a couple years in a row.

Yes, you are right. The herd is a constantly changing entity.

I sounds like it's doing well. Custom sounds like fun. I just made a T-shirt for my DIL for Christmas that has a picture of her riding out stud at a lope, with Put Some Color In Your Life, Ride An Appaloosa, which is her email signature. I'll see if I can get a picture up.

It's probably an indication of all the crowding nowdays, people, cell phones, social programs, etc. etc. :) I like it because I figure it serves warning - just leave me alone :)

I think that was Esther Ruth - I'm going to try it too, it sounds like a good idea.
