The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well that's the movie version. The book is soooooooo much better. It's really worth reading even for adults. The 2 dogs and cat don't get lost on a vacation. They are staying with a friend of their owners with the owners are out of the country. The animals travel across Canada during Indian summer. It is very well written.

I know, I've heard of having your system "crash", but this one really crashed.

I think that I have read The Incredible Journey. I still read good children's books. I loved The Cat Who mysteries, and still have just about every single one.

The books are always sooooo much better. Now the Green Mile was pretty close. That was a good book AND a good movie.

I don't believe it! The clouds have cleared and the sun is shining:)

Heather is suppose to come tomorrow, the temprature is suppose to reach the 50's. I'm not really looking forward to having to tell her that I'm going to have to cancel our riding, probably till spring because of my going to work. But I'm glad we are going to get this last time.

That's fantastic! Hooray for nice riding weather, and drat the fact that work gets in the way of horse time! I'm starting to wonder how long I can hold out before I have to stop riding till spring.

I have found very few movies based on books that I thought were as good as the book. Alot of the movies are good, just not as good as the book.

I didn't read the Green mile. The first time I saw the movie I didn't like it. But I didn't realize till it was over that it was a Stephan King. I watched it again later and liked it alot better, knowing what to expect.

Well in this instance, I'm really looking forward to working. I really need some diversity in my life:).Since the kids left home, it's been nothing but horses. Which is good, but I'm burning out. Altho I never thought that would happen.

Mine would stay out in the rain too if I didn't put them in.... I force them to accept the comforts of the soft life and put them in when it's nasty, whether they like it or not :~D

Good day everyone! we didn't have internet all day, cable was out. I could barely figure out what to do! Completely lost!

Glad you might get a good day for your last weekday ride for awhile! What will your riding schedule be when you are working?

Well, for awhile not much.

I think Jenny or Mack will give me an afternoon off if I need them too. But like I said, I really think I'm close to horse burn out. I really think I'll enjoy it more, if it isn't something I feel I "have" to do. The last few years I've felt since that was all I did, I had to do it.

Does that make sense:)

All day with no internet:).

You didn't miss much. No one around much. Might as well have not had any service:)

I'm sure it will do me good to get out a bit. Winter time is not much fun to ride in anyway, come spring I'll be ready to get started seriously again. I think I just mostly need some sun:)

Just the idea that I had no idea if something ~was~ happening was making me nuts!

And it's not like we don't have things to do.... but we handled the crisis by stopping all productivity to check the connection every 15 minutes.

~shakes head~

Tomorrow we want to try to put up another rail between the mare's stalls, and make it a solid wall by the feeders... they really fuss at each other at dinner time. They're all bluster, but I don't like it getting any more carried away.
