The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Keep it sharp.

It's an excellent pic, don't put it out of focus. (Of course that's speaking as a long-time photographer's assistant who's sweated blood to GET pictures sharp!)

I know how hard it is to get that many animals to sit still. Good job! (Did you use the self-timer and scramble to get into the picture, or did somebody snap it for you?)

Now you've REALLY impressed me! Scrambling around all those horse heads and hineys and looking so calm and self-possessed before the fatal bzzzzzzzzt - CLICK!

My hubby took a family pic of all of us (parents, us, and kids) up in the branches of a huge live oak on my parents' island, while the dog stood on her hind legs below as though she had treed us all. He set off the timer, ran around behind the tree, and scrambled up the extension ladder on the back before it went CLICK! My job was to hold the dog in "STAY" until he could get up the ladder - lots of pics with me glaring at the dog with my hand held out before we got a good one . . .

That camera has a good long timer on it so I held all three horses, and ecurbh would scramble around... and then I would try to throw a brush so the horses would all look at it, which would freak out the dog ;~D

The dog doesn't LOOK freaked out - in fact she looks like she's been taking her ease there for some time and has no intention of going anywhere . . . < g >

Y'all may have a career in animal photography if you want to take it on . . . we used to specialize in cats. There is no way to make a cat do something it doesn't want to do. You have to make them want to (usually involves chicken livers).

OK - much as I love it when you are impressed, the time has come to admit we had to cheat the dog in.... we couldn't get her to stay there under the pony, so we pasted her in from this out-take. She was really ~present~ today, if that counts!

I do love Bay though.... he'll just stand there, ears forward, same every time. He's a easy horse to photograph.

He knows how cute he looks.

I tell you, Photoshop is scary! We're going to have to put in an extra step identifying photographs in court - and the photographer's going to have to swear that he took the pic and knows nobody has 'shopped it.

I know! It's a great tool. If I already had the cat sitting on Cyn's butt, maybe you would have suspected eh?

Now you'll never believe us again ;~D

That picture is wonderful. I like the dream effect and regular one equally. It'll be nice to see the finished product. Have a very happy thanksgiving. I'm heading out soon, and I'll be back on Friday.

I used to have a Siamese kitten who LIKED to sit on my horse's back. He liked it too. She used to actually fall asleep up there. If he decided to move, he would whicker to wake her up so she didn't fall off.

One of my horses is like that. Point a camera at him and he's at attention. Almost seems like he knows his best side and wants you to get that.

Wow, beautiful!!! I love them both. I love the fuzzy one also but the top one you can see their eyes and I hate not seeing their beautiful eyes.

Beautiful pictures:)

I've been in town today scraping old tinting off the windows of my shop. Got the window sign order, they will install it the first day we have 50 degree temps. Snow on the way tonight:(

I'm pretty sure you can do it, but I'm not familiar with silk screening.

Post the picture and I'll see if I can find it in my books. The ink used in silk screening is the same that is used in the transfers I use.

We'll also look for some info about doing what your needing. We need to know that anyway.

Becky

Thank you very much for the GWTW link. I didn't get thru the whole thread. Amazing how far those discussions can go.

This is the result of a small tornado last year. Even small tornados can do a lot of damage. To my knowledge there were no serious injuries or deaths, luckily.

You can see where the power poles were snapped off and the lines were lying in the street.
