The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I got these today of the gelding playing. The first I caught from the house when I noticed them playing.

Then Grizzly wanted in on the play.

yeah, you'd think since he got trampled a few weeks ago doing that, and is still limping bad he would hasve learned. I'm beginning to think he might have got his leg broke. It's starting to get a big knot on one side. I hope he gets over it. He was sure making a great trail dog, but I won't let him go now.

It's raining now:(

In case you didn't hear. Another juror has been dismissed for the Peterson trial. The foreman, the guy that was a doctor/lawyer. No one know's why.

Rusty looks like he changes color with the seasons.... He looks a lot darker now than in earlier pictures.

I liked that picture too, and have been surprised it didn't raise more comment.

Rusty does change from darker to lighter several times thru out the year. I guess that is from being a roan.

My pony changes too a little.... she has dapples in summer when she's shiny, and they disappear in winter.

We went to town ALL DAY, yes, I am officially Mrs. ecurbh, even had to practice writing it a couple times before I signed my new license! Finally got him on bank account we're gonna stick with, and we're all legit.

We went into the pet store to get cat food, and I did an impulse buy of another Betta fish. Been getting the tank set up for him. I already had one, and they need to be seperated.

New Beta fish.... my blue Beta was bored, so got a divider to put down the middle of the tank so I could get another one.... now I have a kindof blue state/red state thing going on with my fighting fish!

They can see through - there is just a plexiglass barrier there where the blue line is.

That doggie looks like he can really move!
I had a dofg that used to come to the barn with me---got nailed once by a big glding, which taught him to move a little faster ;-)

my friend has a Papillion (little toy dog) the dog loves to jump on Fuzzy's side when he laying down.

Good thing Fuzz is so good natured :-)

Nice pics! Good catch on the action. Rusty looks like he is feeling pretty good there. I need him to come chase that Blue Heeler we have, to put him in his place. It's so enjoyable to just watch horses. You learn so much about them that way.

Well he didn't move so good a month or so ago. He got trampled pretty bad. He is still limping bad at the walk, but can run??? seems strange to me.

He is half heeler, half catahoula. I've had several heeler's. Nothing seems to break them, even broken legs, crushed cheek bones, and being knocked out, from chasing the horses. :(. I didn't realize that catahoulas are herding dogs also. I thought they were hunters. I was hoping the hunter part of him would dominate. I had to get him as I was having such a problem with coyote's getting my chickens.
