The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I wish they'd get rid of daylight savings here. Or at least reverse it. Summer days too long.

DeAnn just called, I guess the walker guy not coming. But she is with 2 other ladies. I'll take my camera, we will be going on trials I don't ride by myself. Some of our prettiests ones.

The wind is pretty chilly:(, maybe it will warm up before they get here, between 9:30 - 10:00.

My favorite T shirt had a pit bull on it and says "Leave me alone. Today is my day off". When I drag it out my husbands says something like "going to be one of those days huh? "

I love I Hop pancakes:) Good thing there isn't one too close. I settle for breakfast at home except on Sun. We've always been breakfast eaters. Nothing fancy, but more then cereal.

I love those long summer days. Nothing much to do after dark around here but housework.

Yeah, I like a good breakfast too, around 10-11 though. I eat lite during the week most of the time and splurge on weekends.

I think when we worked it out with some other Texans, at our latitude, we get about an extra hour of daylight in summer than you do, and about an hour less than you in winter.

I can't imagine living in Alaska and never having daylight at all. Say nothing for the cold ;~D

But the thing about those long days is who has any energy by the time it gets dark when it doesn't get dark till 9:00. I think daylight should be from 7 to7:). Is that too much to ask:)???

I don't know how those people in Alaska keep from killing themselves. If it's cloudy here for more then a couple of days I start getting real down. I don't like the cold, but, (Mack is telling me now that it's just that I'm nuts:), if the sun is shining I can deal with it. I'm thinking of getting me one of those sun lights this winter.

That would work good for you but for us late starters 9a-9p would be better. Maybe my mother messed me up as a child. Kids were not allowed in the house, except for meals. When we were called to come in, we had to go to bed.:') Seriously, I don't really care as long as I don't have to keep adjusting my interal clock.

The lack of any daylight would depress me too. And I am prolly more affected by the long periods of clouds than I think. When I was flying alot in flight school, I remember being very affected by getting up on top of the clouds where it is always sunny.... and after staying up there with sunglasses on for an hour, coming back down through it, I'd still feel a little bit better than everyone who had been on the ground. I try to imagine that it is still always sunny just a thousand feet up, but somehow, that doesn't seem to help.

It's not the cold here that gets to me but the wind.

We aren't known for wind here. I fear wind, because in the land of tall trees, winds of 40 mph are bad. We have one or two storms with winds like that per winter, rest of the time just rain.

Well it's more just annoying here. You drop something light and you have to chase it across the parking lot and you can't keep papers in your car. Shopping bags and trash always needing picked up. That kind of stuff. It's the way it makes me feel though. Even on sunny days if the wind is blowing, I feel cold.

Good Morning all! Going to try and get a quick reply in at work. Things have been so hectic here, and at home. We are redoing my grandaughter's bedroom, painting, carpeting etc. I just go crazy at Home Depot. Makes me want to gut the whole house, and start all new.

Love the pics, Hair. Did you try and dig your trench, with the horses in the pasture? They are so curious, about everything you try and do.

I thought about you Cindy, when I watched "Hilago" this weekend. That beautiful paint horse. What a good flick.

Becky, enjoy your ride, and take lots of pictures.

You all take care, and talk at you later, if I can.
