Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
You ever rode a walker?
Becky
This is really good ground. Not too rocky at all, and pretty sandy dirt. If it were a bigger piece of ground, I'd consider buying it!
Once - I've ridden ~with~ them enough. Their actual walk is just a walk equivalent to any other fast-walking horse. Their running walk is something else, and it's really neat because it's as fast as a medium trot, but it's a really weird shuffling walk that is smooth. They say you could set your champagne glass down on their butts. ;~D
They often can't do a real two beat trot, and their canter is really clumsy. They are made to do one thing, and that is that running walk. And it's pretty cool.
Talking about walks, old Buttercup usually ignores me but today when I'm dressed for work she decided she wanted petting and was following me around. She was walking stiff and pounding the ground with each step. I bet she was something during her day. Okie probably about 1150- 1200 and she makes him look little. She was all matted and dirty but nothing doing that I was going to give her some attention. Brooms wouldn't move her. Cars don't even move her. She's so funny.
Good morning.
Becky
Good Morning. I just rolled on out of bed. Have you gone trail riding with the fellow with the Tenn. Walker yet?
We'll just have to see where it ends up!
Good morning everyone.
No, that will be today IF he comes with this girl that is suppose to come.
Becky
You're up early:)
Becky
Yeah - I've been up a while, too, I just wasn't communicating yet ;~D
Haven't even fed horses yet.... Not light here yet for an hour or so.
Morning yall.
I got up about an hour ago. Haven't been out yet either. Looks like it's going to be nice day here. They are forecasting rain tomorrow:(, then cooler temps, so I've got to make the most of today.
Becky
Well, we're on daylight savings.... but I don't know where they are saving it, northern latitudes we only have daylight between about 8 and 4 in the shortest days of winter.
When I was commuting every day it would bother me that I wouldn't even see the horses in daylight till the weekend ;~D
eat a long stack at I Hop
get my nails and hair done
go shopping at Walmarts
spend the afternoon with Okie.
Good thing I use pencil :')
During the summer it didn't get dark until around 9. By October it was closer to 7. Now we are losing an additional hour. I usually don't get off work until around 5. The only good thing I see about an early dawn is that the kids don't have to catch the school bus at dark but they have to go to school too early anyway IMO
I would do the nails and hair ~after~ playing with the horse....
What would bug me in winter when I never saw the place in daylight all week is that I always worried that if a tree fell down or something took out the fence, I wouldn't know it for days. I guess if they were still home lookin' at me when I get home, so far so good, eh?
