Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Well Good Luck:)

Is your DIL, coming for a visit? how long will she/they stay?
Isn't it nice to get housework done? There is some rain in the forecast today. I'm kind of hoping it does. That will keep me in the house, and maybe I can get some housework caught up on.
Becky
My friends have suggested that I go out for that, but I am totally deficient on TV, movies, modern culture, sports other than horses and baseball, and in general anything that has occurred since 1872! :-D
How cool! Good luck! I hope you get picked, win lots and lots of money, to buy horses, ranches, and whatever your heart desires.
Today is the year-anniversary of when ecurbh came to visit me here from Minnesota. A lot has happened between then and now! We've been reminiscing on the old threads and looking at old pictures. He visited for a week, and we decided he needed to go home and pack up!
This is about two minutes after we met at the airport... Handed my camera to a passer-by ;~D
Made him clean stalls the first night! :~o
ecurbh, I love you honey!
Been raining here heavy again. Everything nasty and I can't ride so I guess it was a good time to clean. The arena has been closed for so long that it looks over a foot high in grass in some areas.
I just dare, no I double dog dare anyone to mess up what I did:') The "housekeeper" gone and I have been on the war path. There will be no more eating in my living room and I put all my stuff back down that she had put up that the baby hadn't broken and told the "adults" that he had to learn to respect other peoples property. I didn't have any trouble with Joshua when he was little. He learned just look, and this one will too. He does good for me but you just have to stick with them, you know?
Good Morning! I'll catch up on posts in a bit. Had a few minutes of down time and I've read them. Hope that everyone is having a good day.
Something weird just happened. I just felt more that heard a kind of vibration in the house and then all the electrical stuff started making high pitched noises and then a pop and everything went off but I was able to turn right back on. The ac was sounding funny but ok now but my kitchen refrig still really loud. You can hear it all through the house. Something else was making a strange sound too but it stopped before I could isolate it. Eddie said probably from a power surge. They are working on some electrical stuff in a housing development behind us. He wants me to stay here and keep an eye on stuff til noon. Weird.
Sounds exactly like a power surge. I remember my family had one about a decade ago, and that's what happened.
Yeah. We have had them before but this was a little different. It's just hard to explain. Usually things go right back to normal. At least my refig quieter now. I called the electric company. They are working on a transformer in this area and seemed concerned and told me to turn the AC off and the crew coming over to check my house.
Oh well, I have the next hour off. Do I put up the dishes or stay on FR? :')
Sorry 'bout the delay in answering on this one, I didn't get home 'til after 10 last night and have been covered up at work all day today.
I'm glad you reminded me about that cart wreck. Now I know why I quit riding with that particular person. Wreckless is the most polite word I can come up with to describe him. When your horse ends up in a ditch so deep that only his chin will stick out the top when he stands on his tip toes, something ain't quite right. And they had to whip him pretty bad to make him climb outta there. Otherwise I think he would've layed there and died. The whole thing could've been avoided if he'd just tied him up on the other side of the culvert. He would've still been in sight of the cabin. He was just making him go to prove a point, but I don't he made quite the point he wanted to. All he proved to me is that he was dangerous and didn't care about his horses.
(off soapbox now)
Three Cheers for CindyDawg!!
I'm glad to hear that someone else thinks that you should teach kids to leave stuff alone and not wreck everything in the house or force you to put it up. My in-laws seem to feel that anything my great-niece/nephews do is perfectly ok, that it's normal for kids to behave that way and that it's mean to tell them NO. It drives me crazy when they're around. Nothing is safe. They're like little tornadoes on 2 legs. I don't have any kids of my own, but I do know they can behave if the parents will take the time to make it so.
I'm having one of those days where I have NO ambition to do anything.
I've already taken one nap, and can't seem to get out of my chair:) Maybe it's a weather change. I think we've missed the rain, but even tho it's warm it still feels like there is a change in the weather.
I had planned on riding Trash and Rusty this morning. When I feed this morning tho, I noticed Rusty has pulled a shoe off. He has done this more often then any horse I've ever had. When he play, running and bucking, which he was doing yesterday, he tends to reach up with a back foot and step on the back of his front foot and pulls it right off. I don't think it's the fault of the shoer, just Rusty. I'm suppose to meet the girls at the arena tonight, remains to be seen if I make it. I was going to take Rusty and Harley. I think it would be OK to take Rusty, the arenas soft and shouldn't cause him a problem on that foot. The shoer is coming in the morning to put it back on.

Hair,
Congrats on the 1yr anniversary. Ya'll seem to be made for each other. I loved the pic of ecurbh cleaning out the stall. Sounds like you broke him in right! I'm sure there'll be many more good years to come. :o)
ecurbh,
Congrats on the Jeopardy audition. That's got to be incredibly exciting. I hope you get picked!
LOL...we've all got them:), but I agree with you.
That's pretty much why I'm not real fond of organized trail rides. It seems there is always a nutty one in the bunch. I'm too old and have already hit the ground to often to ride with those types.
Becky
One of my horses used to do this, except he'd hang it in the fence, so the farrier started hammering the heels of his shoes in so that they wouldn't stick so far out the back and it seemed to help. But like you say, sometimes they'll manage to pull 'em off no matter what you do.
Rusty was off all summer, due to illness, so I let him go barefoot. The shoer said his feet were pretty out of balance (what ever that means:), I'm hoping once we get him back right it won't happen too often. I'm sure the farrier hopes so too:). But last year when he was being shoed all the time, that's what he started doing, bending the ends in more. Rusty doesn't over reach at all when I ride, it's just when he's being goofy. I've watched him, he really slings himself around.
Becky
Well, I got the dishes done and a load of clothes in but that's about it:') Seems like lately I'm living on Motrin, come dark though. I've been talking with Eddie (since I'm on my organization kick) about riding in the morning before work a few days a week. That way we aren't rushed in the evenings and I would get to work on time. He's thinking about it but laughed and said there was no way I would get up that early. I told him he could just to wake me up when my horse saddled ( just kidding :')
Saw your post on the HH about the song "Over There":)
Since Matthew really liked that, if he hasn't yet seen it, you should rent the movie "Yankee Doodle Dandy" with Jimmy Cagney. Charlie, my son, still likes it, and we watched it all the time when the kids were young. It's about the guy who wrote that song, George M Cohen.
