The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Good morning everyone!

Thought I would ping this morning since I don't think Becky has her list with her on vacation!

This morning I started what I hope is the "new" 'best practice' of cleaning stalls first thing in the morning while feeding breakfast. For the first couple years I had horses here, that is what I did. Cleaned them first thing and left them to air out all day. This last year, I have fallen away from that and really don't like it when they sit dirty all day and need to be hastily cleaned at night so the horses can be put to bed.

They are so much better smelling if it's done right away.

So - I am making this public declaration so you can hold me to it!

The stalls are much easier to clean when it's fresh, I'd just gotten so lazy lately!

Sammy Kershaw performing at the rally. Lori Morgan was there also, but didn't sing. I think they are dating.

Have you ever looked at the different in people at GB rallies vs Kerry's. They lean forward like they are listening closely and smile a lot. I don't see it with most Dems.

Actually, I didn't get to attend. My co-worker went with my camera. I had used up my vacation time, and I really don't do the crowd thing, very well. I still would have went to see the President

Kerry will be here Saturday night. Bon Jovi is going to pump up the crowd, before the Senator speaks. Most will come to see Bon Jovi, I think. I hope it rains like mad!...lol

You should have seen the shots of the protesters outside the airport. It was so disgusting. You are right about the people at the different rallies. One only had to watch the two conventions to see.

How is the new/old routine working out? I could never get up early enough to do stall cleaning, in the morning before work. Ours stay in all day, and are let out in evenings for a few hours. One stall has an outside access to the pasture, but since we got the new filly, we have kept the Arabian locked in, to keep her company.

I went to a counter rally freep in 2001. It was my first. I had heard but I really didn't know how unusual some of these people were:') My sister and I took my mom with us and she preached the entire way there that she was a democrat and had always been a democrat. A short time after we got there though she decided she wasn't "one of them". She was actually only seeing the extreme but I didn't enlighten her. In fact my sister and I were getting a little concerned because she was getting a little radical herself:') If I had a scanner I would post a picture.
