Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
:') Ok, I'll shut up lol
Dang, you're good. You sure are getting them on there quick.
I do appreciate the help and I've been giving all of your instructions to my husband. He's not as dumb as I am.
You have such pretty horses. I had not realized there was such a variety until coming to this thread.
Isn't it fun to look at lots of different horses and hear about their idiosyncrasies and personalities? You can really learn alot that way and besides, it's fun chatting with other horse people.
Well my husband not going to be a happy camper when he gets home. I want my own closet but right now we share one. He keeps buying clothes and he's on my side. I go in and shove his stuff back but it just keeps happening. I just cleaned out the closet and drew a red line down the center and a big arrow with his name pointing left. If that doesn't work I'm gonna put a nail in the rod.
Uh huh. I have learned a lot here.
LOL I thought you were going to say that you threw all of his stuff out of the closet alltogether.
Not yet:')
The white one is George the Elderly Connemara Pony. The pic of the 2 horses is Juma and Bud, Juma in the front and Bud in the back. I sold Juma a few months ago. The Donkey is Charlee, my guard donkey.
When the wife and I moved for work reasons to South America, the wife got involved with a local dressage school, a style of riding she had no experience in. She was amazed after learning the basics, how much the cueing was the same as the way we ride our horses. What she found interesting is that while the well-trained dressage horses could do a lot of fairly polished moves, they still couldn't back worth a darn...NEVER on a loose rein, nor could they stop worth a darn at a lope. Spinning? Forget it.
The next reining horse I train will learn a lot of dressage moves...laterals at a walk, trot and lope, etc, but he'll also be able to leave a number "11" in the arena when it comes time to put on the brakes.
The local dressage class was getting bored doing the same old stuff, so one Sunday I set up a very simple trail course...a couple of rails to sidepass over and an "L" to back through. Not one of those fancy horses could do any of the basic obstacles. My impression with these guys is what they do, they do well, but are pretty limited in overall variety of basics that I think all horses should know.
Isn't it great - I just love all the pictures I've seen here and am learning so much, just reading the postings.
LOL....you go where you look. Mack kept trying to get me to do that on the motorcycle. If you go to a barrel race you'll hear people in the stand yelling look up. People tend to focus on the barrel, look right at it, you do that you'll hit it everytime. You have to always be looking where you're going, not where you're at, then you'll go where you look:) Like driving a car. Look up. If you're looking down, you'll zigzag more.

Okay, somewhere along the line, I have done something to the composite picture. I can open it on my desktop but I can't get it into an editing program, I can't find the original either.
Probably a matter of rebooting (I hope) Told you, it's been a day like that :)
It must be the weather or the changing seasons or something. My animals are acting funny, my kids are acting funny, my computer is acting funny and they would probably tell you that I'm acting funny.
I know but how is this being communicated to the horse? :'). I have to be doing something different but I don't see it.
I just about had Harley sold as a jumping horse. The people took him for a 30 day trial and had their trainer ride him to see if he would work for their daughter. (Long story), but the first day I took him over there the trainer rode him and was amazed at his stop. Everytime I talked to them while he was there they ALWAYS comment on his stop:).
Becky
I have no idea why it works, but it does. I don't question the why:)

Looks like George is getting an early start on the winter coat. Wonder if he know sumpin?
