The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

This is where the mare pasture seperated from the geldings. The guys all came up and the mares there too. I was too slow though. One of the mares ran up and chased them all away, except for Sarah Lee and her buddy.

Don't listen to that guy, that's such a typical male response. You need compassion, warmth and support, what you will get from women friends. You don't need "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" crap you will get from men.

I have a soft spot in my heart for paints. I'll post a picture of Tuffy as soon as I figure out how to do it.

That horse is gorgeous.

Last one today:') Sarah Lee and her new friend. I thought they were biting each other at first but just grooming. This horse follows her everywhere she goes. I though Sarah Lee looking good but she looks wimpy around this one IMO.

Depending on where you are it can take quite a while for the carcass to rot. You might consider digging a shallow hole, getting a full bed load of soil from the gardening supply outfit, a bag of hot lime from the feed store. Put the carcass in the shallow hole, dump the entire bag of hot lime on it and then cover it with soil. Done properly, in a week everything is gone.

SAFETY: Use rubber gloves when handling hot lime. It will eat your skin right off.

You can't see it in these pictures but my other paint has a white streak on her right flank that looks just like a bolt of lightening.

Well, that sounds different. Do you have any pics of it? Are you a member of the American Paint Horse Association?

Ok, I'm getting started but my computer blocked the ActiveX control, whatever that is. I can override that and let it be installed, is that what I need to do?

Okie has papers. Where's Becky? Shhh. I haven't sent them off yet:') I bought the mare as a grade. The prev own trying to find papers though caz she wants me to breed her in a year or two. There's a stallion , like Okie behind the stables that I forget the name but will stud a horse like Okie each time regardless of the mare.

Better wait for Hair. I can show you what Becky and Hair taught me but I have no idea what that is.

Wow, you have really beautiful horses.

I'm getting there on the posting pics thing but I have to quit for now. My daughter is driving me nuts to go ride before it gets dark. I'll be back later.

'afternoon everyone, back from the last show of the season and catching up.

Sounds like you guys living interesting lives with the horses and dogs :) My queenslands don't bother my horses at all, but they've been raised with them. Usually they won't herd anything without the command, go to 'em. Chickens don't count, they round them up about daily. We run into loose dogs out riding occasionally and have just trained our horses so that we can turn and face the dogs. Usually they take off before going head to head with the horses.

Have a great afternoon, nap time for me.
