The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Sorry, accademically should be accordingly.

Don't know where that came from:)

Interesting indeed. Undesirable, but nonetheless a purebred and ought to be registerable. It would make them somewhat a lemon... because you wouldn't want to pass on the trait either... unless you were breeding to a Paint ;~D

Labradors are sortof the same way.... there is a somewhat rare and undesirable trait for a white star on the chest and white toes. Blacks and chocolates are judged very undesirable with any white hairs.... but yellows are sometimes forgiven for a very small white star.

I was wondering, based on the last paragraph, undesirable white would probably put them out of halter classes, but I wonder how it would affect them in performace classes?

Think it would hurt?

I think they'd have a pretty limited show career, proportionate to the amount and visibility of extra white they have.

Watching to debate too.... but Kerry is speaking and I am bored already. ;~D

One quick post.

Heather is always bringing me her horse illustrated magazines to read. I got Nov. today. We use to get all these magazines too, but canceled after a few years. Mostly they all say the same thing over and over.

But this issue REALLY has some good articles in it. One one softening a horses mouth, one on artifical aides (and it doesn't bash them!! totally:), and another one I really like, "Personality Pitfalls and Windfalls, learn how your temperament affects your horse"

Just thought you might be interested.

Now for the debate.

I used to like that magazine too.... used to get them second hand from a friend with a subscription. Might be good to get a subscription again... ecurbh and I both would probably enjoy them.

I wouldn't think it would affect them at all in performance classes. At least, it shouldn't because that should be judged on the horse's performance and possibly conformation. Although AQHA judges are terrible about liking solid colored horses.

What is an acceptable time to wait to ride after feeding? How long can they wait for the hay after eating pellets?

Good morning.

CindyDawg: I have ridden mine within 30 minutes of them eating. And you don't have to wait any time time to give them their hay. Everyone around here who feeds hay and grain/pellets feed them all at the same time.
