The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I can give you an idea of the cost of gravel for your road....

Around $300.00 a load, delivered in a large dump truck. And a load does not go very far.

Becky has plenty of rocks, just stacked up, not doing anything......... : )

This land does not adjoin mine. There is a 40 acre piece between us. Besides it's worthless land. More rock and scrub oak, and way over priced. Now that I'm over the inital mad:), I'm thinking he must think someone else was doing it, altho I don't know why. Maybe twice a year others ride back there besides me. He has told me he LIKES that I ride back there so that others see activity. He says he had trouble when he first moved back there with people coming up by the house checking thinks out. I've never been close to the house. I think there has to be a reasonable explanation. I was careful to keep my way around the fence small, so 4 wheelers couldn't get around it. It's a tight squeeze for a horse, I always cringe going around it because my knee is even with the top of the pole. I think he owns about 40 acres. I have never crossed posted land, or gone around fences without permission. I thought I had his permission. I just need to talk to him.

LOL. I read this post awhile ago, but honestly didn't know the answer. I spell it one way one time then the other the next. But after I read your post I was watching TV and saw a caption that said "Edward lose's debate", answered your question. I think loose is for "I have loose shoes".

TheNewMare gave ecurbh a dandy nice first ride! We just rode here on our property, about an hour, and she was just as nice as can be. I led for awhile, she led for awhile, and even the pony led for awhile. She had no trouble at all when either of us rode off alone either. She'd crash right through some of the cluttery mess from the brush hawg without hesitation, just goes where you point her. ecurbh loves her.

We asked a guy who was sitting in his car waiting for someone if he would take our picture ;~D

You might try your State message board, if you don't feel comfortable, posting a vanity.

Some of the grass we seeded is actually growing out there in the woods, too, if you notice. Woo hoo!

She's bomb-proof to a fault, by all appearances... you can't even shoo her out of the way ;~D

As new as she is to your place, I'd say she'll act the same where ever you take her.

Didn't you say she was raised by people, that her mother died??? Probably why she is that way.

Yeah, her mother died when she was a week old, and they bottle-fed her.
