In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
obviate \OB-vee-ayt\, verb:
obviates, obviating, obviated; transitive verb
obviation, obviator; noun
1. To prevent by interception
2. To anticipate and dispose of or make unnecessary
It is reasonable to assume that Martin acquired the most basic skills of the rural gentleman: horse-riding, elementary sword-play and the minor degree of literacy that compulsory attendance at divine service encouraged were all requirements that preceded -- even obviated -- the need for a more formal education. --James McDermott, Martin Frobisher: Elizabethan Privateer
Etymology: Latin obviare, "to meet or encounter," from ob viam, "placed or coming in the way" (ob, "in front of"; via, "way").
Have you donned your black armband for this year's NHL season?
I hate this lockout. This could be Yzerman's last season too. :(
What an asshole. They should have flown over the Winnipeg jail and just shoved him out, hoping he'd land in the clink. And don't we have enough of these types up here without your airlines indiscriminately dropping more on us at every whipstitch? :^)
there is a seat in the corner for you right next to Robert, shame on you
Consider yourself also kicked by the croqs.
LOL!! glad I kept reading before I said the exact same thing!!!!!!!
Afternoon! I'm baaaack-
Between See BS and the DNC
The antics are worth paying to see
But thanks to Fox and the internet
We can all watch and laugh for free
Dan's documents from Kinko's in Amarillo
Are an insult to even an amateur sleuth-
I suppose he thinks that his long tenure
Obviates the necessity of telling the truth
Those 8th generation copies were doubtless
Typed in Word by some DNC troll-
A careless move by desperate people
To further their nefarious goals
Yep, the trip we had planned for next week is off for sure. I'm anxious to see how the condo fared..it is a block off the beach across from Pompano Joe's.
We have been lucky so far..still have power, no damage to property. It has been pouring down rain all day, and the creek behind the house is the highest it has been since we've lived here. It is still 7-8 feet below our property, so we are cautiously optimistic that we will be fine.
Hope you have your swimmies handy!
We're fine. My daughter and SIL in Mobile are fine. My baby brother and his family in Pensacola are fine. LE and I have had power all day. Mom and dad lost power at 1:00 PM. My son across town lost power at 11:00 am. It will probably days before power in B'ham gets restored because they probably sent all the crews south.
I'm not gonna stay on line long.
WE are all dandy!
Rain and wind, wind and rain. Everyone is safe!
YAY! Don't you guys let some commie hurricane push you around.
Wet, raining in waves of light and heavy. Power trips in and out.
Modest number of trees down, but manageable in this area.
You guys are in the worse area by far - stay safe.
Garden too!
Well, we all know you're good 4 69 somethings!
Nope. So far Alabama has no deaths or serious injuries. But the toll in Florida Panhandle just went to 20. These were caused by tornadoes spawned as Ivan moved in.
Got to run.
Good luck!
Glad for all the good news.
I'm still watching the Ivan thread and have been getting bunches of good news from fellow FReepers there as well. Of course there are some not so good stories, but the majority are good.
