Few reasons:

1. Magnetic source near that corner of the monitor
2. VGA cable has damaged pin
3. VGA cable is damaged
4. Electron gun dying

Try using "Degauss" and see if it clears up.

Most modern monitors have a feature called "degauss" in the monitor's menu. (Or a button on the monitor).

It's symbolized by a horseshoe magnet inside a no-no symbol.

What it does is discharges a capacitor into cables surrounding the electron guns creating a magnetic field to realign the guns firing if they've become distorted.

Modern CRT monitors, I should note. LCDs don't have this issue, obviously.

You need to degauss your screen. Your magnetic shielding on you speakers may be bad. If degaussing doesnt work it could mean the phosphorates in your screen are dying(if its an rgb monitor)

It WAS the top left corner as you look at it. Works now. It appeared after the monitor was lifted.

If it cleared up after a degauss, it was likely you had a magnetic source near that corner.

In the old DOS/ASCII days monitors would sometimes get burnt out in the upper left corner, but with Windows it probably wouldn't be an issue. But, if degaussing fixed it, good deal.

Nothing that has not been there. A left speaker and a USB external drive. Nothing magnetic that I am aware of but that doesn't say much! Darn and I thought I just might have to get one of those nice new "thin screens." Guess not yet!! Damn!!

Your monitor's electron drain is clogged. Turn the monitor on its side for an hour or two to let the left over electrons drain out of the mask.

That was the first thing I tried and it didn't work. Crazieman put me on to the fix, but thanks anyway!

Well, I have to eat my words--there was a magnetic pin holder sitting on the top of the cabinet that houses my monitor. It was newly put there--by me--DUH!!!

Sorry all but thanks for the fix!!

common cause is speakers are too close to the monitor.
