New Silver Bullet against DNC smear machine

On Page 9 of President Bush enlistment packet there is a dd214 stating clearly that he served in the Air Force and National Guard in block four. This disputes the Democrats latest accusation against Bush that he lied on a campaign poster.

I was trolling this afternoon at the Democratic Underground just to enjoy what is best in life. That is as Conan the Barbarian governor would say: "What is best in life: Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!"

After laughing at how irrational they are I stopped at a post that showed Bush's ad for a congressional race. The DU crowd was all excited that this was a big lie. Someone said they had to get the story to the national campaign.

I thought: Technically Bush was in the Texas Air National Guard but his uniform, I'll bet had a USAF on it. I simply could not believe how desperate they are that they would try to spin service designation into the key issue of the 2004 election. Democrats are so scared and so stupid that there is no telling what they will do next.

"this latest line of attack is going way over the bridge "

Are you confusing Kerry with Teddy?

Good research.

Looking at these documents reminds me of something that I had forgotten about my days of communicating with goverment officials. Not only did they always write on 8 by 10 1/2 paper, but the letters, memos, etc., were always DATE STAMPED, not dated by the typewriter. I mean date stamped by a rubber stamp!

Many of the docs on the link you posted were date stamped, but the CBS forgeries all have the date typed in.

Is this an issue?

Page 10 of 33 clearly shows that on 13 August 1968, GWB was promoted to the rank of "AMN" in the USAF Reserves.

It's stunning how stupid the John Forges Kerry campaign is. If the race were a Little League World Series game, the mercy rule would have been invoked after the 60 Minutes II debacle last week.

Drudge, Rush, Hannity et al need to have this info immediately to be ready to pummel the DNC.

Well there you go, it says he was discharged from the Air Force ANG. Of course I would expect the left to Line up their Military Experts ie. John "Rambo" Edwards, Terry "Killer" McCauliff and the Famous Chicago Sticker Jesse Jackasson to exclaim the DD214 is a forgery cooked up in the White House by Carl Rove.

Must mean McCauliff will call a press conference and anounce this a proof positive GW was Off doing cocaine and raping teenage girls. Dan Rather will run with story for the Weds. Episode of 666 minutes.

I Suspect Bill Clinton is laughing so hard watching these assholes blow this election he is gonna need new stitches in a day or two.

According to federal law (specifically, 1062(d) of title 10 of the U.S. Code):

"The Air Force consists of -

"(1) the Regular Air Force, the Air National Guard of the United States, the Air National Guard while in the service of the United States, and the Air Force Reserve;

"(2) all persons appointed or enlisted in, or conscripted into, the Air Force without component; and

"(3) all Air Force units and other Air Force organizations, with their installations and supporting and auxiliary combat, training, administrative, and logistic elements; and all members of the Air Force, including those not assigned to units; necessary to form the basis for a complete and immediate mobilization for the national defense in the event of a national emergency."

10 U.S.C. sec. 1062(d) (emphasis added).

After doublechecking John Forges Kerry's DD214 (assuming it's authentic), it turns out he was USNR. He was on active duty of course, but even if not, as a reservist he would rightly be able to refer to himself as a US Navy vet.

Since it appears that GWB was in the USAF Reserves for some period of time, it will be hard for Forges to make the case that Bush mislead anyone.

do you know how to an image capture of a pdf?

There are several ways, but the simplest (and this will work for any Windows program) is to get the portion of the document in the current Acrobat Reader window (or IE window) and press ALT-PRT SCR (that's the Alt and Print Screen keys, at the same time. This puts a snap shot of the currently active window into the clipboard as a bitmap. Paste it into any program you want.

In the Acrobat Reader version 6 there is a Snap Shot tool that lets you highlight the section of the doc you want. I don't remember if it's in older versions of Acrobat, but since version 6 is free, just go to www.adobe.com and download the new one.

Of course, then you have to post the picture somewhere and provide a link or img reference, so just having the link to the PDF is the best thing. I would, however, save a copy to your hard drive, in case USA today decides to send the file to the memory hole.

U.S. Air Force Fact Sheet AIR NATIONAL GUARD

The Air National Guard is administered by the National Guard Bureau, a joint bureau of the departments of the Army and Air Force, located in the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. It is one of the seven Reserve components of the United States armed forces that augments the active components in the performance of their missions.

Mission

The Air National Guard has both a federal and state mission. The dual mission, a provision of the U. S. Constitution and the U. S. Code of Laws, results in each guardsman holding membership in the National Guard of his or her state and in the National Guard of the United States.

Federal Mission

The Air National Guard's federal mission is to maintain well-trained, well-equipped units available for prompt mobilization during war and provide assistance during national emergencies (such as natural disasters or civil disturbances). During peacetime, the combat-ready units and support units are assigned to most Air Force major commands to carry out missions compatible with training, mobilization readiness and contingency operations such as Operation Joint (Endeavor) Guard in Bosnia, Operation Provide Comfort in Iraq and Turkey, and Operation Southern Watch in Kuwait. Air National Guard units may be activated in a number of ways as prescribed by public law. Most of the laws may be found in Title 10 of the United States Code.

The Air National Guard provides almost half of the Air Force's tactical airlift support, combat communications functions, aeromedical evacuations and aerial refueling. In addition, the Air National Guard has total responsibility for air defense of the entire United States.

The National Guard Bureau, both a staff and operating agency, administers the federal functions of the Army and the Air National Guard. As a staff agency, the National Guard Bureau participates with the Army and Air staffs in developing and coordinating programs that directly affect the National Guard. As an operating agency, the National Guard Bureau formulates and administers the programs for training, development and maintenance of the Army National Guard and Air National Guard and acts as the channel of communication between the Army, Air Force and the 54 states and territories where National Guard units are located.

State Mission

When Air National Guard units are not mobilized or under federal control, they report to the governor of their respective state, territory (Puerto Rico, Guam, Virgin Islands) or the commanding general of the District of Columbia National Guard. Each of the 54 National Guard organizations is supervised by the adjutant general of the state or territory. Under state law, the Air National Guard provides protection of life, property and preserves peace, order and public safety. These missions are accomplished through emergency relief support during natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes and forest fires; search and rescue operations; support to civil defense authorities; maintenance of vital public services and counterdrug operations.

Force Structure

The primary sources of full-time support for Air National Guard units are the dual-status military technician and guardsmen on active duty. These people perform day-to-day management, administration and maintenance. By law, dual-status military technicians are civil service employees of the federal government who must be military members of the unit that employs them. Technicians train with the unit and are mobilized with it when it's activated. Active-duty members serve under the command authority of their respective state or territorial governors until mobilized for federal duty. The Air National Guard has more than 106,000 officers and enlisted people who serve in 88 flying units and 280 independent support units.

Personnel and Resources

The authorized strength for the Air National Guard for the current fiscal year is 106,678 compared to active force strength of 360,877. The operating budget for this fiscal year is $1,486.5 million for personnel, $3,099.6 million for operation and maintenance and $213.2 million for military construction for a total of $4,799.3 million.

Flying Units/Functions and Capabilities

Besides providing 100 percent of the United States air defense interceptor force, the Air National Guard performs many other Air Force-related roles and missions.

The Air National Guard provides air traffic control, tactical airlift, air refueling KC-135 tankers, general purpose fighter force, rescue and recovery capability, tactical air support, weather flights, bomber force, strategic airlift forces and special operations capability.

Airlift squadrons, flying C-130 Hercules aircraft, transport people, equipment and supplies. Eleven aeromedical evacuation units augment the Air Force. The Air National Guard's airlift capability includes one C-5 Galaxy and two C-141 Starlifter units. Air refueling units, flying KC-135 Stratotankers, provide air-to-air refueling for strategic and tactical aircraft.

The Air National Guard has three rescue and recovery squadrons that fly HH-60 helicopters and HC-130 aircraft. These units provide important lifesaving capabilities and services to civilian and military agencies.

Two heavy bomber units fly B-1 aircraft and provide strategic strike and deterrence capabilities for the nation's defense.

Air support units that fly OA-10s provide forward air control support of close-air support missions.

The general-purpose fighter force is equipped with F-15, F-16, A-10 and OA-10 aircraft.
