The simplest explanation for the torn document is that it's a forgery-- and a deniable forgery at that, since nowhere does Bush's name appear.
There is a massive, almost 4-year long discussion of this issue at Salon.

to show that superscript existed was thought to be a forgery on Jan 31, 2004. Can anyone follow up on this? The poster at this site refers to a long discussion at Salon about this. If CBS is using another forged document to lay to rest one of the big issues concerning the new documents, then I think that smells kind of fishy.
I might be wrong. I don't know what document is the "torn" document. It might not be the document I posted. Can't really tell. But there is certainly talk of another forged document out there somewhere. What is it?
I find it interesting that for each "new" document there is a certain theme for which CBS has found someone who wrote a book about it. Sound familiar...like the book bashing assault of earlier this year. Why did President Bush refuse to take a physical...perhaps he is on cocaine, ala Kitty Kelly! he is talking to someone upstairs ...ala Ben Barnes got him in the guard...this is no coincidence and it is all hogwash as far as I am concerned...it's time to turn up the heat on the MSM because it is obvious they are biased and I think they have come to the conclusion that it isn't hurting them so they are just going tro keep going.
What I find interesting is the "full speed ahead" approach CBS took with this story while there was no such enthusiasm for the 245 Swift Boat Vets single story. Even now. And yet, though "all the offical documentation" bear out Kerry's version of things (at least all the documentation we've been allowed to see), yet there have been 2 discrepancies: Christmas in Cambodia and the first (I believe) Purple Heart narrative in which Kerry has had to offer retractions. Doesn't the existence of these 2 retractions necessitate the immediate release of all Kerry's records before the media (and the public) can apply the full weight of credibility to his version of events?
