FORWARD OPERATING BASE WARHORSE, Iraq, July 20, 2004 The 1st Infantry Division Commander, Maj. Gen. John R.S. Batiste, awarded the Silver Star medal with Valor, one of the highest military decorations, to Staff Sgt. After jumping out of airplanes for four years, I decided it was time to try flying them. In the Armys Warrant Officer Candidate program, the top ten percent of the initial training class are offered fixed wing training. I completed their fixed wing program and, after a transition course in the Dehaviland Otter at Ft. Ord California, in 1967, I was off to Viet Nam. I became the companys standardization officer, flying direct support for our Green Berets in the delta. I flew over 1,100 hours that year, I was awarded 23 air medals with an oak leaf cluster, I was shot down once and awarded the Silver Star with valor. Upon completing my military obligation, I was hired by Continental Airlines in 1969.
An Accidental Soldier: Memoir of a Mestizo in Vietnam
Garcia's "tour of duty" ends when his squad is ambushed, two of his men die, and he is seriously wounded. Garcia tells us about the irony of receiving a Silver Star with Valor for his actions in that ambush. "I was given a Silver Star for failing to read an ambush. I was responsible for my squad members being wounded or killed because I failed to read that ambush. .... I was responsible for our walk into that mess and I was only trying to get us out. It was a mistake, not valor."
In the end Garcia throws his Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnamese Cross of gallantry, and Purple heart on to the lawn of the White House. I witnessed a similar act in ...

"Then why did the Naval Dept come out and say they DON'T give now nor EVER a "V" on a silver medal????"
Who you gonna believe, the Navy or Kerry's dd214 ( or was it 15? ) ?
Is that you Lurch?!?!? Time to go back to boozing with the swimmer.
lol, one doesn't have to "dare" me to get me to doubt Kerry's vietnam service.
When now hot shot, you've just shown your self to be a dumba$$! Now get out of here!!
If it looks like this: VV It is probably that notorious 'W' device :)
That is the rare VW award for conspicuous valor in the back seat of a Volkswagen.

You have hit it on the nose. If Kerry were to win, he would be the first President with a ZERO approval rating upon taking office. The most of the left doesn't like him or the DNC platform for that matter, and I'm quite sure the right doesn't like him either.
It would be EVEN MORE INTERESTING if this was part and parcel of Kerry upgrading his Bronze Star after the fact...
Welcome to FR. Enjoy your stay.
FYI: the Navy seems to disagree with your assessment.
Here's looking at you, punk.
Let me guess, you did a search and replace so every instance of "for valor" was replaced by "with valor"?
Seriously, you can't be this stupid.
LOL! I'm feelin' the farfegnugen love...
give Kerry the L device for loser
Ping
The Navy has never awarded a V for a Silver Star for obvious reasons. Prepare for boarding by Viking Kitty Platoons. You are hereby being zotted and deported from the reservation!
It's just that he wasn't a war hero for our side.

Navy Launches Formal Kerry Medal Probe
"The facts are clear, the Navy awarded John Kerry the Silver Star, a Bronze Star with a Combat V and three Purple Hearts. It is waste of taxpayer's dollars and the Pentagon's time, especially during wartime, to investigate a 35-year-old Navy clerical error," Meehan said in statement.
