The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Dinner... mmm... I should eat...

However, I must first run to the Blockbuster. I have determined that my coding efforts required "Much Ado About Nothing", the Kenneth Branagh version.

So far as I know, it's a regular series... if it doesn't get cancelled, it will go 24 episodes, and may be renewed for next season.

My new high score for the HAM practice tests.

Test Complete
The elapsed time was: 6 minutes and 21 seconds.
You have passed the test with a score of 97.1 percent.

All of them have the same effect.

What happens if you leave the USB card out entirely? Does the machine boot and shutdown normally then, or not?

Maybe there's a jumper or switch on the m/b?

No switches, but probably about 20 or so jumpers that control various things, in various locations on the board.

It's got plenty of yard too! Half acre it says!

What would be the plan for Miss Kitty's outdoor adventures with this house? Does it have a sliding glass door anywhere?

I think it has one going out to that side patio. The back yard is completely fenced and is on the west side of the house.

Yep, I was just looking at it. No way I'm touching that stuff without a map and a Sherpa :)

OK, if by "yes" you mean it boots and shuts down normally, then... first suggestion: check the BIOS settings, and see if there's anything in there referencing USB support. The motherboard may have on-board USB support that needs to be disabled, before you put in a USB card.

Rose has been checking on the motherboard, and apparently it's one that is used a lot for overclocking. She thinks it's possible that if the m/b bus speed isn't set properly, it may be conflicting with the card. No, don't know yet how to check or change the m/b bus speed... still checking on it.

Man... they didn't have it. Or "Taming of the Shrew". I had to settle for "Henry V" when what I really wanted was a lovely romantic comedy. I love that movie...

On the plus side, my program compiles. After dinner I'll see if it runs.

Looking at it, I see there is a USB port on the m/b.

I hadn't noticed before...I just transplanted my stuff from the old 'puter to this one.

If that's the problem, if I can't use both the one on the m/b and the four on the card...I'd rather use the card.

How would I fix that? I can get to the BIOS, but don't know where to go from there. I'm almost certain USB support isn't mentioned, but it's worth another look.

Too bad on the movie :(

Henry is good too. Have you seen Branagh's Hamlet? I'm really hoping it comes to DVD soon...

Good news on the program.

Make sure you look through all the BIOS settings to see if there's any mention of USB. If it's not enabled/disabled through the BIOS, then it's probably set by some jumper (and, actually, it could be both...) I don't suppose you have a user's guide for this motherboard, do you...?

Yeah, I like anything Branagh's in but the Hamlet was a little moody. When it hits DVD I'll see it again.

Mmm...fajitas...
