The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It really does look bad! Almost as bad as Algore's make-up...

You'd think with all the money he's got, he could afford something a leetle more authentic, if he realllly has to have a tan. As if it makes any difference to HIS looks...

Msdrby's mom got the spray-on treatment before a cruise recently. I didn't see the result, but I think she looked very good.

I heard Laura Ingrahm speculating sKerry had a 'chemical peel' treatment, then went into the sun too soon.

I can't decide if I want to watch the debate tomorrow. I want to see what kind of stoopid things might happen, but can't stand hearing lurch actually speak. I might have to watch it with the sound muted.

Probably it's because I read the "funny pages" as a kid, rather than superhero comics, so I like black-and-white line drawings, not flashy colors. (Also my manga addiction doesn't help). I was surprised when I read the "Sandman" graphic novels. Loved the story, hated the art, except for Dream and he was mostly depicted in black-and-white anyway.

Me too! I don't have TV, and I'm not sure I can get video to work. Might connect if I can.

I'll most likely miss the beginning since I won't get back from class until seven thirty or so. Maybe I can make you ping me?

Okay...homeschool/gardener spider-type question...

Wife is concerned about a HUGH spider she saw on the deck this a.m. (We have lots of spiders around the outside of the house). I haven't seen it yet.

It is brown and she says it looks "fuzzy." It's got striped legs.

It's obviously not a black widow (I have seen them though). Could it be a Brown Recluse? Seems like they're more likely to be "under" something.

Big question is, can I just knock down the web (like we've been doing) or do I need to spray?

And, on a side note, is there a natural deterrent? I know that bats and purple martins are good for skeeters (I been looking at bat boxes). But what about spiders?

Oh and HA HA HA! We've all seen Shelob...HA HA HA... ;-)

If it's a banana spider, I don't think they are dangerous. Actually, they are pretty, if somewhat spooky looking.

Cool map, btw.

These are very large spiders, as far as spiders go.

I don't think brown recluse are really fuzzy. Or very big, really.

Maybe something like a wolf spider? Those can be scary looking, though pretty harmless.

Thanks. I left a message with the wife to see if she could get a picture. If she does, I'll post it tonite.

I'm doubting it's anything series. And even if it ~is~ a brown recluse, they only attack if they're threatened.

This is a perenniel problem. More than once I've headed out the back door with the dog and walked right through a HUGH web.

I don't mind 'em. Think they're kinda pretty. I just don't like walkin' through 'em.

I didn't see it and she's in a tutoring session, so I can't ask her. I think it was one of them big and flat ones. I'll know more later.

Brown Recluses are just that...very reclusive. You will find a Brown Recluse in your closet corner or up in a box in your attic or something, but not hangind out on a porch.

I'm willing to bet it some sort of garden spider...a beneficial. We like ours, however they poop huge black poops on the side of our cream-colored house...
