The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I said "Ah, now I understand you! You are a cheese-eating surrender monkey!"

I'd love to learn more languages, but I mangle up the two I know already.

No telling what I'd do to another language!

I see you are a fan of 'Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn' stories. Nice catch. :-)

Now don't go giving me more credit than I deserve, osage!

I knew that you were greeting me in Sioux because I collected Native American art and books for a while before I had kids (read: had more money to spend).

;-D

Yikes! I go away for a few minutes to walk part of the way home with Bilbo and come back to find I've somehow landed in the Hole of Babel...

I'm still mulling over my NaNoWriMo idea. But I think it'll work.

I do have to think of several months' worth of stuff worth writing down...but a lot of it can be near stream-of-consciousness stuff.

I also have to decide what her house is like, what neighbors are around, what she does for a living, what time period, any pets...etc.

I think it COULD be kinda fun!

It does sound fun!

What if her life is slightly... fantastic, but she writes in a matter-of-fact way? Perfectly normal in most ways except for little comments here and there? This is just off the top of my head...

I'm gonna bug you til you do it, you know.

I have a list of 9 to see. We go out on Wednesday but I don't think we'll get 9 in in one afternoon.

I'm still not sure about adding fantasy...but if I do, it'll probably be along those lines.

But so far my ideas run along the normal world track.

Any of 'em have Miss Cat's porch already in place?

Huh?

I thought "onda" meant ripples, like on the water?

How'd you mean it?

Maybe one or two. I figure all I need is a sliding glass door. Then I can get one of those glass panels with the pet door at the bottom to fit in the frame and one of those portable screened cube thingies to put out there. All it has to do is contain a cat and discourage other critters.
