The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Crud, no more "Ann Coulter needs cheeseburgers" remarks for a while.

Cool, WN! But I know which lady I'd rather look like...

It's an old edition, but not quite an original. My only original Heinlein is in a 1954 collection called "6 Great Short Novels of Science Fiction".

I'll let you know if I find a robot cover, LOL! Have a good night!

Found this image on the Sky Captain website. I know I've seen tentacle-armed robots like this elsewhere, but I can't remember where!

OK, now I'm really going to bed! ;)

Morning folks.

No time to hang around since I need to get the last shutters put up, bathe Jessi and bring her inside, clean out my bettas's tanks and lastly get myself and the girls bathed in case we're without water for a while. :-)

This hurricane season has been very draining and I'm well and truly sick to death of it.

The sky outside is looking grey and bleak and the gusts have started to pick up a bit, but thankfully I think it will hit north of Miami once again. Whew!

I'll check back in when I can and most of you have my cell phone number if you need to reach me. Bye!

Good Morning All - thanks very much for the Anniversary best wishes. Enjoyed them very much.

Workshop was excellent - Mo Dept of Conservation "Stream Dynamics" short course.

This weekend is Octoberfest downtown so we'll be sticking fairly close to home - keep an eye on the homestead. Amazing how many people come to events like that, people watching from the front porch is a quite enjoyable.

Driving home yesterday from Columbia, down 63 and then 50 to home - not a single K--ry Sign, Bush-Blunt-Bond all the way; quite refreshing to see that many, a number of hair/ecurbh sized versions as well.

Bear - I recall seeing several versions of 'tenacled armed' robots in years past, where of course remains a mystery. Read a lot of SF from the library in grade school - then the Edgar Rice Burroughs PBs came out and read everyone of them, I don't think many others appreciated the ERBs like I did.

Figuring out whether or not I'm going to Boca for a few hours to help friends there with plywood...I've got 2 sheets and they might need 'em.

But are you sure you won't be sorry whent the season's over...we'll miss all the drama, excitement, the being scared half to death every weekend!

Not sure what happens in an Octoberfest, but I used to have a great view of the big rodeo in town from my front porch in college, lived right next to the grounds. I made $$$ letting people park in my yard! Dollar less than the lot across the street! And I used to stay home to watch the goings-on.

Nope. The Real Estate Guy is out of town until Monday. So I guess I'll look over what I can find on the web and come up with another list of houses to see.

Just got back from getting the vee-hicle serviced....Cubs and Heels are playing at the same time...must...have...coffee...

OK - We have way too many green tomatos. We took the plants down yesterday because they were starting to die off. What do I do with these? I used a whole bunch of red ones in a taco sauce last night, and we still have a lot. I think next year we are going to grow corn in containers instead ;~D

Will the green ones ripen?

Hey there... saw Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow earlier this evening, liked it a lot! I recommend it, especially to anyone who is a fan of pulp SF of the 30s and 40s.

Yaaaay! We thought the same: total homage* to pulp. Visually wonderful, very stylish. Delightfully cheesey.

*Please pardon my French.
