The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hey there... saw Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow earlier this evening, liked it a lot! I recommend it, especially to anyone who is a fan of pulp SF of the 30s and 40s.

I've been considering seeing that. Looks interesting. Also makes me want to rewatch some old Flash Gordon serials, LOL!

I'm watching AMC's Godzilla fest right now. The original movie is in its last five minutes. "Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster" is up next.

The images in the movie were just stunning, many of them seemingly taken right out of the pulp artwork of the 30s & 40s (the robots especially).

Saw you mention Godzilla earlier, so I've been watching it here too. :) Don't know how much more I'll watch though, will probably be heading to bed before too much longer...

Glad you recommended it. I may need a series break tomorrow.

Ugh. Just got done with another marathon coding session. I can't get my program to work, and I have so much to do this weekend. I honestly felt like crying a couple times this evening.

Kinda "Metropolis"-esque, huh?

Wellllll, no, not really... I was thinking more like pulp-SF magazine covers of the 30s & 40s... I've been Googling, trying to find a sample of what I mean, but haven't been able to find one! (sigh)

We have a celebrity recipient of one of our Hobbit Hole knives! WN asked me to post it here for everyone.

-----------

I gave away my Hobbit Hole knife this morning to someone I really like and respect a lot. I was able to give it to another lady that I feel does worlds of good to promote the conservative viewpoint among women. Ann Coulter.

I personally like and admire her. I was invited to a breakfast briefing of hers in Ft. Worth this morning and was very excited about it. Got up at 4AM to drive over. I was fortunate enough to be there early, when a very few people were even "on time." When Ann walked in, there were no more than a dozen people in the room I was in. I got a chance to meet her and talk with her for a few minutes. She was excited when I told her I was on Free Republic and *really* excited when I told her about the troop support projects. She loved the knife and asked for my email address so that she can get back with me about donating a book for us to send to troops. I gave her my email address and hope she doesn't lose it or forget!!!

It was a very pleasant morning for me. I got to meet someone very special I think. And in meeting her, she surpassed my expectations as a very warm and friendly lady. Truthfully, I have always thought I would have a blast just sitting and talking to her socially for a spell. Going to the breakfast this morning I really didn't expect to get to "meet" Ann but if I had thought about it, I would not have anticipated her being so down-to-earth and friendly. I would have anticipated that she was preparing for a speaking engagement and would be polite, friendly but maybe of something of a professional demeanor and distant. Talking with her felt like for just a few minutes I had my little wish of talking to her in a relaxed social environment for a bit. We exchanged some digs at the libs in the conversation and she laughed at mine and I laughed at hers. It was great! And now I know I was right, I'd have a blast sitting around talking to her! Am attaching my picture with her so you can see. :-) Was surprised cause I am taller than she is! But, she really is beautiful, has a bright genuine, quick smile and laughing eyes too! There is just absolutely no reason that the men of the conservative world shouldn't be drooling over this lady the way they do. She is a peach!

I'll have to dig out some of my SF pulps and see if I have any with robots. Most of the ones I can think of had futuristic cities and spaceships on the covers.

Speaking of which, I found an old Dell edition of Heinlein's "Starman Jones" recently--cool cover.

I found 40 Google pages of pulp covers, but none of them with the type of robot I wanted... and I'm sure I've seen the type in the movie on a pulp cover! Oh well.

Cool about the "Starman Jones" edition! If it's old enough, might be worth something on eBay... ;)

I'm heading to bed... have a good night!
