The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

My Dad brews...but they (he and one brother) just decided to attempt a batch of wine. We'll see how that goes...takes a heck of a lot longer to find out if it took than it does for beer.

I think they're using a concentrate rather than starting from scratch, though.

Speakin' of brewin' up stuff. Do I need a "starter" or somethin' for the compost pile? I know how to make sour dough starter, but I've never started a compost pile.

Should I just keep addin' stuff to it? Or does it need another "element?"

I don't think you need a starter. But I have read of recipes that call for certain amounts of "brown" material (dry plant matter) and "green" material (fresh manure and such) in specific ratios. I know that the pile has to be kept moist, but not wet, and that it needs to be aerated periodically.

I've thought about getting one of those barrel setups that keep the smell enclosed. Turn a crank and it mixes itself up.

I just got a set up of three wire bins. So far it just has yard and garden stuff in it. I need to get a tarp put over it.

I still don't have one...so I have no idea.

But I know how to make sourdough starter, too...

Okay folks. I've done all I can do here. And I have 57 thousand errands to run before we can get out of town.

I'll check in from the road if I can. If not...see you Sunday.

Enough of you have my cell if'n their are any major mini-dramas...

I was gonna say "maxi-dramas" but that didn't sound right...

Macro-dramas, or possibly mega-dramas.

Or you could go metric: kilodramas, hectodramas, decadramas, dramas, decidramas, centidramas, millidramas...ad nauseum.
