Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |

Yeah, I'm home on the trusty dial-up. :-D
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I only had to stay for a little over an hour.
Tomorrow is gonna be a special kind of hell though, since we are all going to have to maintain our same level of productivity on a system we have only used once! LOL!
It'll be rough the first month or so, I'm sure. But it should get back to normal after we get the hang of the new style and design.
We went from software to web-based processing and the new system has a completely different layout, even though most of the information is the same.
That looks like more fun than what I'm doing! I discovered I have no clue how to attack program 1a, so I'm doing 1b for now. Maybe work on the parallel programming assignment, too, though I can only test that at school...
Dear Sir,
Three years ago, on September 11th, 2001, I recall sitting with my husband in my living room, both of us still reeling from the events of that morning. Our two little boys were in bed and we had the television off and we were just sitting, talking. It was quiet...no airplanes flying over on their way to and from Tulsa Intercontinental Airport.
Slowly, my husband and I both became aware of a sound...a low "thunking" sound. A military helicopter! It was so low that our windows rattled.
We both went out in our driveway in time to see a helicopter fly right over our house. My neighbor across the street came out of her house and ran to me and said "Oh Kim! I'm so scared!"
"Don't be scared!" I replied. "When you see something like this, you know you're safe!" In my heart, I prayed a prayer of thanksgiving for whoever that was flying over. I also began my habit of praying a "hedge of protection" around the military choppers and F-16s that fly over my house.
My two little boys and I also began another tradition...we decided that every time we heard a military chopper fly over, we would dash out and wave and cheer for our troops. My children are homeschooled, so we're often home during the day when they fly over! We thought if someone happened to glance down and see us, they might be encouraged.
Well, apparently someone DID look down, because on May 1st, 2003, they acknowledged us! We knew they saw us and we were thrilled! My little boys were leaping around waving and I admit, I was too! I had jerked the flag off the front of my house and was waving it like a lunatic.
I have to admit, my boys took it pretty well in stride, but for me...well, it was one of the most momentous days in my life.
I was delighted when on___, the military chopper again acknowledged my enthusiasm down below them! My kids weren't home at the time, so I was alone and I just waved and laughed...and prayed. God bless those soldiers up above!
I told my husband about the second acknowledgment and he said "Oh, they just want to get a good look at the crazy woman down below!"
That was the last time the chopper acknowledged us below. We continued to wave and cheer whenever we were home. But the choppers flew high and fast and we thought that perhaps the person responsible had rotated out, or was no longer in the area.
Until today.
This morning, I was feeling a bit under the weather, so my husband took our boys to church and I stayed home. It was around noon-time. I was organizing their toys when I heard the familiar thunking sound of an approaching chopper. I went out into the driveway and found them acknowledging my home again! I was moved to tears. A lady driving down the street saw them too and smiled and gave me the "thumbs up". Again, I prayed and asked God to pour blessings on the soldiers in the chopper above me.
Sir, I am so proud of each of the soldiers in those choppers. I'm so grateful for their service. I suspect that there is one or two specific soldiers who are responsible for acknowledging me and my family here on the ground and I have a gift for them. If you could be so kind as to let them know who I am so that I could get this gift to them, I would so appreciate it.
This soldier was flying the chopper from north to south, down Memorial, at around noon today, September 19th, 2004. I live in ----, near -----Street, behind ---- Church.Sincerely,
2jm
hehehe....I just thought of what would happen if they landed that helicopter on your street one day....
Wonderful note, 2J!
Oh gosh...I'm sure I wouldn't survive it.
You really think it's an ok note? Notice I don't ask who they are...I ask that they be told who I am...leaving the ball in their court so to speak.
Oops meant to say more and it posted!
It is a ~great~ spirited letter that will make a lot of people smile!
I agree with Hair on the "acknowledgement" thing, now that I've re-read it. I remember how it happened, but they won't know what you mean.
And leaving the ball in their court is the best way to go, IMHO.
I just don't want to get anyone in trouble...it worries me greatly. I'll wait till the military sorts here in the Hole chime in about it.
I don't even know who to send it to! A guy from my church told me it was the Army National Guard and even the Renegade Chaplain said the same thing...
"What happened over there?"
"It appears a civillian plane has run into 2J's hedge"
~ducking~
ROFLOL!!!!!!!
Now that is funny.
How did you crash that plane again?
;-)
~still chuckling~
Afternoon all...
Beautiful fall-ish day here. Not a cloud in the sky. Wife and I were trying to remember the last day like this. All we could come up with was the day after Alex hit the Outer Banks. But that weren't here.
Did some yard work.
OT - Why is everyone showing Doris Day movies today?
osage - we "may" have another canna ready to bloom.
Ruthy - looks like Jeanne is having a hard time making up her mind. Maybe Karl and TD 13 are keepin' her there.
2J - cool story. cool letter.
Off now to a pool board meeting.
ROFL!!
Good one!
I'm so happy, Hair. You just don't know how good that makes me feel when they fly around my house like that. It's the biggest compliment.
I'm thrilled at you being so thrilled!
Good luck at the meeting, Corin!
I don't when and where Jeanne plans on going because I am not watching anymore. As a matter of fact, most of the hurricane shutters came off of our windows today.
Now watch. One will be here this weekend just because the shutters are down...
Would someone in the Hole be so kind as to give me a heads up incase Jeanne does start heading this way? ;-)
Thought you were done with the pool...
It's a really boring afternoon here. I went to church, and it was boring. Nobody commented on my tattoo, which really makes it pointless to get a cool weird henna symbol. Maybe I should email pictures to my mother...
Who's showing Doris Day movies?
It's summerish here.
