In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
acclivity \ah*kliv*itee\, noun:
acclivities; noun, plural
acclivitous; adjective
1. An upward slope
2. Ascending, ascent
It prompted the matron to say that she would walk a little way--as far as to the point where the acclivity from the valley began its first steep ascent to the outer world.
--Thomas Hardy, Tess of the d'Urbervilles - A Pure Woman
Etymology: Latin acclivites, from acclivis, uphill: ad-, ad- + clivus, slope; see klei- in Indo-European Roots.]
I went to my local "Victory Center" the other day and the volunteer staff seemed to be very fearful of the acclivitous road ahead. Before I left, I had them laughing and understanding that acclivity had already been overcome. I mean come on, the media has been throwing their best efforts into the JFnK camp, the DNC had already occured, millions was being spent by Soros and JFnK and GWB hadn't even started to campaign yet.
Yet, we were in a virtual tie! Before I left, they realized that the acclivity was to much for the Dems to overcome and in the end their "girly man" legs wouldn't have the strength to make the climb. They'd just slide into oblivion!
Mornin' all!
Good morning everyone! How incredible was Arnold last night?
he was excellent!
FPL must see John Kerry's Not-So-Swift candidacy taking on water, and that it's time for the 'rats to leave the ship.
I absolutely LOVED his comparison of the Dem convention with the title ofhis movie...."True Lies"
I thought the daughters were pretty good too - getting a few digs in to show reporters that they were young and immature when they got into trouble when just beginning college.
Kewl! A new place for us to leave apples and other bribes!
This room is a disaster! LOL
I know that feeling! I'm expecting (hopefully this weekend) an underbed thingie which will have drawers, but will also mean getting rid of the bed frame and box spring. Good luck!
the daughters made me cringe a bit, with the jokes. i wanted them to be done quicker. i DID like the hamster line.
I agree Gabby - his speech had to strike a cord with many people who were not born to great wealth - self made folks who could see it is not a party for the rich - He should bring a lot of converts........
I have always thought Laura was so pretty but last night I was stunned by her resemblance to Kate Jackson...... I've never noticed that before.......have you?
This was a post on DU the other day:
Trouble on the campaign trail. A bad day to be a Kerry supporter.
i hadn't thought of it, but i can see what you mean. she is gorgeous. i did say to xshub that the contrast to that hag Tarayza was startling! again. the twins clothes choice stun me. i guess they are typical for their age group, but i NEVER like what they are wearing!
What a great article! ROFL.......thanks so much for linking me to it..............
i agree with the poster that said maybe it was a Pub posting on there to dispirit them. in any event, it is WAY too close to get overly optimistic. every single vote needs to be fought for and won. if it is remotely close they will use every fraud possible to steal it.
Monday night when I was watching, FPL made the statement that a Kerry win is "doubtful."
okay, so he has been ratcheting down from his rabid fits and this wasn't an overnight thing.
