Having come of age during the Vietnam years, I take Kerry's actions very personally, for another reason.

You see, I BELIEVED the media, and therefore, I believed Kerry. And I am very ashamed of it.

I took no part in any demonstrations; I was a young working mother and then went back to school. But I still was guilty of believing lies.

I did not realize until 10 years ago that we WON the Tet offensive.

I thought that Walter Cronkite was telling the truth. He had reported on WWII truthfully; why would I think he would lie?

I couldn't conceive that an officer in the Navy would lie, before a Senate committee.

I didn't know anyone in Vietnam. I knew a few vets in college, but they didn't talk about it.

I had been an Air Force wife, but my husband had served in Europe.

And for all my keeping up with current events, reading the paper, reaading Time, watching all news programs on television....I was WOEFULLY and SHAMEFULLY ignorant.

During the Carter years, it dawned on me how I had been manipulated by the press and Hollywood.

I became angry, and my anger over that has never gone away.

There have to be millions of people like me, who woke up to find they had been deceived by these charlatans, and are really, really determined that it not happen again.

The left stole from the veterans their honorable reputations.

From me, they stole my pride in our nation during those years. It took Ronald Regan to bring that back. Now they are trying to steal honor and pride from another generation. I refuse to let this happen.

Jane, I could have written what you so finely expressed. We are about same age & had the same naivete.

I also developed an anger for believing whatever was written in college textbooks was true. I was a bio teacher & taught much that I now know there is extensive facts/data that is 180 degrees.

Mowing on hold.. rain pretty heavy. As the grass is pretty long, might now dry out enough to do today.

Was just watching MSNBC, and Bill Press called the Swifties liars, claiming that every single charge had been refuted by Ketchup Boy. Pat Buchanan, to his credit, immediately called him on that whopper, asking him if "Christmas in Cambodia" and the first Purple Heart didn't count among the accusations that the Kerry camp has already backed away from. And he really went after him for calling them liars. Press being the loyal RAT hack that he is, started to try and talk over him, and the interviewer quickly went to commercial.

Hi Jane...

The article I linked in #56 is very relevant to what you have said. Many of us took the media as "truth" when in fact it was (and is) "entertainment".

Thanks for your thoughts. I don't blame the people of this grand and glorious nation but I do blame sKerry and those who followed and supported him. There is still today a great number of folks who are "blind" to what the convoluted garbage spun by the media.

Isn't kay's favorite line: "I hate the media!"?

Many of us have experienced just what you did regarding the Vietnam War.

During high school and then college in Boston, I wore a POW bracelet and was never angry at the troops, but I was angry at the war and at Washington. We were completely manipulated by the media and the leftists.

After reading Unfit for Command, the power of the media was fully exposed in a way that I don't think the authors intended, but it's there for all to understand.

I am GLAD for the Vietnam vets that Kerry has so miscalculated because their anger has been burning for over 30 years and this is THEIR time to get the truth told about their service to our country.

Yesterday in the car I was listening to the radio and a veteran called in who told a horrifying story about returning from Vietnam to the states and walking through a line of demonstrators who spit and threw spoiled food at them. This soldier had to get on another plane and smelled so badly even after trying to clean up in the rest room and said people on the plane turned away from him in disgust. His pain was so evident after 30 years that it brought tears to my eyes just listening to him and the impact of the injustices those wonderful soldiers endured was heart wrenching.

Is this how the left will try to portray our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan in the future? I will NOT let that happen and I try to tell soldiers when I see them how much I admire them and thank them for their service. As well, through the efforts of another freepers, I have written dozens of letters to our soldiers both overseas and stateside at Walter Reed Hospital and tell them how much support they have among a wider portion of the population than they might think and that I will attend every parade and honor them in every way I can.

MM, I was just like you - When it started to dawn on me that the MSM was LYING to us, I investigated it. When I did, I became a die hard conservative.
